Sorry I'm not referring primarily to what Mayweather said here as being racist, more the stuff he's said in the past.

 

Do some Filipino's eat aso (dog)? Yea. To me, that's not a race thing, but a cultural thing. Just like if you mentioned watermelon and fried chicken to a African from Nigeria, they would just look at you like, "where's the food"? As opposed to a black American, you might get ****ed up.

Is it disrespectful and wrong? Hell yea. But it is a long tradition in boxing that trash talking between and about potential opponents where bringing up racial and cultural differences is par for the course. Would you rather the canned, scripted tripe of the ufc? I wouldn't.

I mean, as far as Floyd's comments about Pacman, even back then before the rant, *******s on message boards, blogs, etc. had been making racially charged remarks against Mayweather, his family, and all Floyd fans that they even THOUGHT were black.

 

I dont mind trash-talking thawk but I dont like when there's racism thrown in there. Boxers are the idols of many people so there's a responsibility IMO. It tarnishes the sport when it's racial IMO.

There's a few big racism cases in football in the U.K atm and it seems by the response from the rest of Europe about this, and the non-action it seems of things like Hopkins' rant that the U.K is trying harder, or simply making a stand against racism.

Other countries dont seem up nor down about it in comparison.

I hear you, and I don't particularly like it either.

Some atletes gravitate towards the role of "idol" or "role-model", and some couldn't be bothered. And both are choices that are made on an individual basis and shouldn't be held against said athlete imo.
