I was hurt enough that if my opponent and myself were in a real fight, I'd get knocked the **** out. My opponent backed off at first after hurting me with a counter and combo, then barraged me again later with a combination that made the coach decide I'd had enough. I was dizzy as ****, but what amazed me was what I could take those punches without going down (knowing you can take the punches is kind of scarier than what I'd guess finding out you have a glass chin is like.) The guy was bigger, a hard hitter, and far more experienced. It happened again later on, same guy; he didn't really know how to hold back at all, kind of counter-productive. That was within my first year in a gym though, I'm much better now and haven't had the same happen to me since.
been boxing about 2years, rather spar with some of the heavyweights than the middle/lightweight guys the clubbing shots only hurt when you walk onto one or have your hands down otherwise you can jab and move them around all day, easy work.. just dont sit on the ropes and get leaned on!
First time I sparred was against a pro, he went easy and let me beat on him... The second time I sparred was against an amatuer HW with 6-0 record, and he went hard as hell. I wasn't prepared for it (I thought he was going to go easy too). He has a Mike Tyson like build and style, and he got inside and blasted me with heavy uppercuts and hooks. I got rocked probably three times but never went down. I also ate a good strait right to the gut that knocked the wind out of me but I didn't show it. After it was over I had a partial black eye and hurt pride. My main mistake was when the dude lunged in with a combo I would cover up and take my eyes off him sometimes even closing my eyes slightly, so I didn't see his punches coming and I'd end up eating big shots. I learned to never take your eyes off your opponent and never ever close your eyes. I also learned that I can take a punch. The next time I sparred with him I did much better, and actually caught him with a good left hook
Completely agree with this, Sparring is not for hurting or knocking people out. Ask a certain person at my gym; and he will completely disagree, ****.
I got a knob like this the other day. I'm only 16 and not that tall, not short but not tall either and I was sparring with a 24 year old and a 26 year old. The 24 year old is a sound as **** and he's actually smaller than me so that was fine. We go pretty hard in my gym but I don't mind if the guy is the same sort of size. Then this big twat who is 26 and who is about 6"3 and is waaaay bigger and waaay older than I am comes in. When I'm sparring bigger guys I don't have the stamina to slip punches and get inside so I just sit back and block loads of shots but this guy was fully going at me, busted my nose up and everything. The guy obviously hits hard as he has more weight behind is punches and is just bigger, so I was afraid to commit to my punches in case he countered me. So I ended up just taking a beating, I mean I must have landed about three clean shots in two rounds. Anyways after the first round, my nose was like a fountain(on my shoe and everything lol) but the next round this guy comes out guns blazing again. You wonder what ****s like this are thinking, he's not impressing anyone. I'm 10 years younger a good deal smaller... :-(
