I wonder if Rios had to maintain a dry out because he puts on so much weight but still needed to make 147. That way, Rios may still not have had a chance to recover 100%.
I don't believe the rumours either, or even if he has that his manager would disclose such information. If you look at this interview with Rios from a couple of days ago, he looks and is acting quite normally. If he hadn't been eating at all he would be pretty distant or irritable I imagine. Starting to get concerned about Rios if all this is true. There's no way he'll dance away from trouble for 12 rounds if he's suffering.
Definitely sparked a bigger interest in this fight for me. What do people think Murrays tactics should be now? Pour it on as early as possible to see just how Rios is in this fight and try and get him out of there or try to take the fight later and hold back to see if Rios really tires out and then try and take him out. Hopefully this news has given Murray an extra boost in thinking he can pull this off, got the makings of a great fight now. Terrific undercard for Cotto-Marg. Haven't looked forward to entire card as much as this in a long long time.
More like dangerous FFS. This is why 24 hour weigh in's were introduced, to make sure fighters were properly hydrated, some are using it to push the boundaries even further, it's ridiculous.
The best of both Worlds. Pile it on early, sit back when Rios tries to come back in the middle rounds and let him empty the tank, then throw the kitchen sink at him late. Problem is Murray is known to fade, has no defensive nuances or backfoot game and isn't the most durable. This will be a fire fight regardless, assuming Rios is not a corpse he's still the harder puncher.
I think Murray has pretty good stamina tbh and has shown before that he can step it up in the championship rounds, only problem is in those instances he was facing poorer opposition and hadn't taken much punishment before he got there. Whether Rios is badly drained or not, he's gonna have to ship alot of punishment to make it late for the reasons you mention. Really interesting to see how Murray goes about this, I see his stock in the boxing world rising immeasurably tonight though. I don't think as much as Rios as so many others do, and I rate his defence on a par with Murray, pretty poor.
Murray shouldn't get involved too early unless he can help it. I'd be very surprised if Rios is THAT ****ed that he wouldn't be heavy favourite in a 3 round brawl against Murray. Murray shouldn't worry about the first few rounds other than to make Rios work to win them then, maybe by the middle rounds, the weight making difficulties (to whatever extent they are really true) will start to affect Rios and Murray can come into the fight and win down the stretch. That said I'm very skeptical on a number of things regarding this fight.
Good news, this undercard really is great. Most of the fighters on it are world class and there is potential for some terrific fights. Best undercard of the year by a mile.
Rios looks like a ghost - weigh in below http://youtu.be/GN0GUhlV-TU (not sure how you put videos on here :huh)
Yeah I mean you're still asking a lot Murray is really no better than domestic level and if anyone can show me a performance to show otherwise I'll listen
