Really good fight - two young, hungry, skilled fighters. I'd favour Khan but this would be interesting.
Yes, along with James Kirkland, Roids Jones Jr., and Jason Litzau he has one of the glassiest Chins in the sport. As has been elaborated on repeatedly by the Chincheckers, Maidana's punching power is vastly overrated. He hasn't KOed anybody good, he was unable to stop a shot Morales, and his punching mechanics are the basic reason for his overrated power. You see a guy wing windmill punches and they look hard as hell but a concise and compact punch delivered from the legs and shoulders are far harder than arm punches. Secondly, Khan took the shots from Maidana when he was winded and huffing like an emphysema patient in the Boston Marathon and he was still nearly KOed. He has no Chin. None.
I'll admit Maidana isn't a technical boxer but he does hit hard. He wasn't able to KO a shot Morales because he was unable to land on him (credit to Morales for use of superior boxing technique). It seems ironic to me that Khan should be immediately labelled as having a glass for jaw from a knockout against Breidis Prescott (who's record at the time was something like 21-0-20, all 20 KO's coming within the first 3 rounds), a punch which IMO would have clean KO'd almost anyone, yet the yet the evidence to dispel the suspiscions of his chin (see Maidana fight) are not nearly as quickly considered as the reasons to question it. Adding to the equation the fact it wasn't Khan's best weight leads me to believe those who slam Khan for his punch resistance merely dislike him and just want to see him lose (which if fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion). I'm not saying Khan has a glass/granite chin, I'm just saying theres evidence to support both sides of the argument and derrogotary conclusions should not be so easily drawn.
I really think Khan is the "next" ODLH by taking on the best competition out there. Khan has taken on the best 140lbs, for the exception of Bradley who talked too much and didn't fight at the end. If he takes on Guerrero that will be another good name on his resume wether win or lose. I expect him to fight Mayweather, Ortiz, Berto and hopefully Pac if he is still around once he goes up to 147lbs.
He'll need to get in line. Floyd's already fighting Pacquiao, Martinez, Ortiz, Morales, Khan, Maidana, Super Six Winner, Cotto, and both Klitschkos on May 5 according to recent reports. Khan vs Guerrero would be a very good fight at 140 though.
