As being the most dangerous opponent at the current moment Lennox fought them it is Vitali, Easily.

did anyone expect Vitali to give Lennox such trouble? Hindsight of course says different but at that time people were surprised this guy gave Lewis so much trouble.

Lennox Lewis is the greatest!

Lennox is too strong for the Klitschkos

6'5" (maybe more) and 250 pound of muscle, power and slickness, amazing 84" reach

Just too big, just too strong, just too good

 

Lewis fought Vitali. He managed to beat him but realized he was done. He was 37 years old. Nothing shameful retiring.

 

Lewis haters tend to put too much emphasis on weight for this fight.

Their counter argument tends to be on how he was only 3 pounds more in this bout than when he fought Rahman in the rematch or how he was only 6 pounds more than when he fought Tyson.

What they need to realise is that the number on its own is pretty meaningless, it's how that weight was distributed in terms of fat vs muscle.

The truth is that Lewis was not in prime condition when he fought Vitali and that's pretty evident visually.

I happen to really admire Vitali Klitschko but he by no means fought a good version of Lennox Lewis that night.

 

Depends how you look at it I suppose. Holyfield and Tyson were at their peaks in the 80's and neither did anything at all after the Lewis defeats while Vitali has gone on a 13 streak winning run taking out top class opponent after opponent.

 

Ummm,Holyfield remained a top ranked fighter for about 3-4 years after the Lewis fight.

Shamefully for the hweavyweight division, hes still close to being a top 20 fighter

 

Hardly, he was extremely lucky to be saved against his fellow old and shot opponent Sherman Williams with a no contest ruling.

 

Which was what like 10 years later?

Many of the above fights are on Youtube as is Vitali v Lewis - judge for yourself. To me it's clear Lennox was getting old when I compare the Ruddock fight v the Vitali fight.

There's no shame in getting old, some do it with grace and know when to make the call. Others embarass themselves, put their health at risk and ruin their legacy.

Wald and Vitali are both fantastic fighters who have developed to be a large step above the competition. It's a shame the Klits haven't had the same standard of HW opponents available to fight. That doesn't mean however that Lennox should keep going and take the shots/risk to make up for the lack of talent just to keep the punters happy. He did his stint and went out on the crest of a wave. Look at Ali or Tyson's last fights to see how he might have finished.
