Hey guys, I just had my first sparring session with a friend of mine. It was pretty sweet, but it was completely different from what I expected! Getting in combos seemed so easy on the heavybag, but I couldn't even do a 1-2 on him except once or twice. My whole training and strategy went out the window when I was out there. I already see what I do wrong, my footwork got sloppy and I slipped a few times. I also got into slapping flurries when I got aggressive and couldnt keep my form. He seemed a lot slower than me though, and I decided kind of slowed down for him for some reason, and this probably made me even sloppier. Anyway, here are the videos of 3 rounds. Only constructive criticism. :good

Thanks jackass. Like I said it was my first time, and it didn't go at all like I pictured it. I'm planning on sparring a lot more now. **** off the thread if you can't give anything that helps. This video was just taken to see how much I improve with a few months.

lol I don't consider myself black, because I thought that was reserved mostly for those of African descent, but I'm the dark one.

Why aren't you wearing headgear and a groin protector? Do you have a mouth piece in even?

We actually had those and were going to wear them, but he didn't really want to wear them. We were going light anyway, so I gave in. Kind of irresponsible I know, but we didn't hit too hard anyway, so it turned out alright.

I'm not joining a gym, because it's 50 bucks a month here. I've got a pretty busy schedule with classes and everything, so I only train 2-3 days a week. I don't think that's worth my $50, especially since I'm just doing boxing as a hobby, not trying to go pro.

If it's just a hobby then all the more reason to wear protective gear. Tell your buddy even the pros wear head gear when sparring. I don't get what's with these guys that think it's manly to get their head knocked around, their nads punched and their teeth chipped up? :patsch

a little word of advice to you average_joe you are the one wearing shorts right? if you are you need to fight "tall" especially when against someone that is much shorter than you are, use your reach and height advantage, do not fight down to his level, stay on the out side pop a jab to judge distance stay just a few inches out of reach when ready to execute then close the minor gap, attack then back out of harms way

and yes you now know that it's not as easy as it might seem,

    keep em up
