I've told you before. I did in 5 fights what you couldn't do in 50. :good

    IMHO

Basics first, work pads, bag shadow box. many people dont sit on punches enough as a basic fundamental. Defence must be drilled in for many hours.

    1) Then move up to very light, technical sparring with a trainer on the pads. Clear communication, pads throws a few shots back to test the defence.

    2) Then move up to controlled sparring with both people in 16oz gloves. Short rounds, non/semi clinched fist strikes. Clear communication as to what is happening. It may only be jabs, or 1-2 or 1-2-3. No big attackes. Just get used to moving, attacking, defending.

    3) All out sparring. varied if you want to call it. basically a fight.

Even top level/experienced fighters should work with 1 and 2 though.

I think all the PhD/ Sports science stuff has no place in boxing from a fight/gloves on/punch etc perspective. Boxing is the hurt business. It is like horse racing, methods passed down learnt through experience. You can not learn how to fight out of a book.

However, from a conditioning side the PhD/ Sports science stuff should probably be used more if anything. Some old school boxing trainers take note.

A novice would go all the way to Thailand just to do a boxacise class. And then get dropped by a bodyshot by a fellow novice.

Funny, this 5 fight novice never got dropped when I was at Johnny Toco's.

It's not about sports science, it's about learning and it's universal regardless of the activity. All of our brains learn better in certain conditions. Boxing is a sport.
You're not going to learn anything out of a book, every movement is learned from experience, every complex movement is being built on top of fundamental movements.
Are you trying to say that the human brain works differently for boxers and only experienced boxing trainers know how to train the boxers unique brain?
I don't understand why the boxing world is so afraid of learning and progressing, it's like a religion and they feel like it would be disrespectful to the 'legends' of the past by not doing what they did.....

Billy Dib is trash. You completely outclassed him.

I cannot understand how this clown was given a belt.

My bad, I must've misinterpreted it.

The Brain that Changes Itself is also a great book although it doesn't specifically deal with sports.

Showing off a little spar with Birchy is supposed to impress us??

Prime Dave would have demolished you in under a round, this video is your crowning glory, i'd say Dave would be hard pressed to even remember something so insignifigent :patsch

Just like a Prime Mick Shaw would have smashed Billy Dib?

Hows about i get some italiam bum over here to KO in one round, impressed then i bet hahaha! jizim pants.

Birchell is a great bloke and a good trainer/boxer. He has a great amateur background and won a medal at the commonwealth games, we never know how far Birchy could have gone because he had an accident that forced him to retire from boxing. I was honor'd to share the ring with Birchy as the main event for KOstya Tszyus first ever Crewfighter, also appearing 3 times in his book as a result :)

Would you like the book title and page numbers? lol

As for Dave demolishing me in under a round, not possible im sorry. Dave hit me with one of his best shots at the start of round one and it did nothing to me, he had 20kg up on me and hit harder than he has prob ever hit before, still no affect on me what so ever, sporting a black eye the next day from it but thats about all.

David was managed and trained by Team Fenech, whilst he was an experianced amateur and fighting the best amateurs in the world, Team fenech failed to repeate this in the pros, fighting guys with 2 losses no wins. 1 loss no wins and a opponent with 0 fights, his hardest test in the pros was most likely his debut, smooth sailing from there. Doesnt diminish anything he has done in the amateurs or now. just saying..
