My cable carrier didn't even offer the card, so I bought in online and it was the worst feed ever, froze after every 10-15 seconds.
Wasn't that the PPV with Shane Mosley as the Headline and I think Cintron and Margarito on the Undercard. It was only like $30 - so I was looking forward to this - but like you guys said - it never took off?
Thats the one, Mosley fought Estrada on teh undercard, the main event was Cintron-Margarito, and if I remember right Calvin Brock fought Jameel McCline?
It was a good, competitive card, but ESPN didn't promote it at all? I think what they've found is that they can make a lot more money -- with less risk -- by pumping money into The Contender and then playing the role of promoter. Manfredo getting a shot against Calzaghe is perfect evidence. Probably won't see another ESPN PPV anytime soon.
I agree. I think once they got the Contender any plans for future PPVs went out the window. Just as well. The less PPVs the better. ESPN has a big enough budget that if they wanted to, they could compete with HBO for top level fights. Problem is advertising not wanting to get behind boxing, regardless of the ratings. It's already a proven fact that Friday Night Fights does better ratings than Hockey and most NBA games on the network.
It was so cheap that I had to get it. Margarito vs Cintron was so dissapointing. Margo had him figured out immediatly. Also, Mosley should have ko'd Estrada. He had him hurt to the body, why didn't he finish him?
