If Amir is able to beat Lamont pretty convincingly and have a great performance I really see next year as Amir's breakout year. 2012 will probably see him move into the top tier of pound 4 pound fighter imo.

I'm glad he immediately followed that silly statement by stating he will not underestimate Lamont Peterson.

Lamont is cool dude and a tough, rugged fighter, I'd be very surprised if this is a easy fight.

"I want every opponent to be better than the last"
    McCloskey
    Judah
    Excellent fighter,below average thinker.
You could have thought that one through a bit more Amir,I'd like to think Maidana beats Judah and McCloskey.
Seriously though,I do believe it's hard for him to get decent fights at 140.
Sooner he moves up the better for him.If Bradley stays at 140 without trying to fight Khan then how can anyone take him(Bradley) seriously again?

Khan is in for a rude awakening if he thinks he is gonna walk over Peterson

    I respect Khan though, he's a G

That's not what he said at all. It was:

"I always go in there thinking that the fight is going to be tougher than my previous opponents [fights], and I think that's what motivates me."

Meaning, he tries to take every fight more seriously than the previous one. Nothing wrong with that. It's the right thing to say and believe in.

I can't watch the video here, but judging by the comments He said 'want', not 'is', so there would be no problem with what he said.

:edit: looks like Uncle Rico beat me to it. It's not the first time someone has taken Khan's comments totally out of context.

I'm afraid that we have to accept that the price of Amir becoming a better fighter is that he's sacrificed much of his ability to engage his brain before talking. His Primetime appearances have been hilarious/ridiculous.
No matter, his defence is a lot tighter now.Nothing for free in this life.

I'll put my hands up since it's you Rico, but at least give me that it depends on the context.I'm not having a go,I just think he isn't the biggest thinker. You know I rate him highly as a boxer. If you just saw the thread title, you could ask why he's fighting him then, but like the poster said earlier,he pulled it back.Didn't mean to get stuck on this,I just find some of Amir's statements frustrating.

Which is why he's a fighter, not a politician. Seriously, who gives a toss about him making slip-ups in interviews? Froch comes out with contradictory statements all the time, yet I don't see anyone here constantly highlighting and pulling them out of context to bash him.

There are statements that are impossible to be taken out of context to be fair, but I won't list them as I'm no Khan hater and this wasn't the direction I meant to go in.I really wanted to focus on the latter part of my original post.

Khan is just telling the truth

If he wins convincinly then this shows what he said is correct and his confidence level within his ability is at the right place

But obvoisly he is making sure he doesn't think it will be an easy fight - as it may not be - he trains the same for every fight

The only fight which I think he would pull out extra for is a Mayweather fight... But we all know how overtraining can be bad..

every fight is different - there is a difference between bieng confident and bieng cocky.

    Peterson has a big heart
and that is the main thing Khan should be wary of.

If anybody wants to get pissy over Khan then get pissy over how he's started to talk about himself in 3rd person.. he should leave that **** to mayweather lmao..

I really didn't expect the focus to be on that end of my first post Rico, which is why I said "seriously though"
I do think it's beyond any dispute that Khan has said some silly things,I have tried to make clear that I rate him very highly as a fighter.I've also made clear that his boxing ability has far more relevance than his PR skills.
Let's not get stuck on the negatives,If I didn't make it clear I wasn't being entirely serious then I hope it's categorically clear now.No offence meant.
