It's lame revisionism to simply blame it on Top Rank even though it's become apparent that Arum is doing his best to roadblock a Pac-Floyd fight (Not that Floyd's leaping out of his seat for it to happen, or making a grand effort to push the fight). Not every situation is the same, and it seems Mayweather is just using this as some sort of cop-out to explain his hand-picking ways above LW as far as I'm concerned, and because boxing fans are fickle and have a short-term memory they're buying it. It's not only lame but lacking in any real evidence. If you want to claim he took easier matchups for their low-risk high-reward benefits then fine, but don't play it up as Arum automatically would refuse such matchups. Floyd didn't try anyway, it worked out for both of those self-preservationist.

Mayweather earned about 40mil in one yr fighting Hoya and Hatton. He wanted to enjoy his money. Mosley lost to Cotto and was viewed as done before getting his fight with Margo. Williams lost to Cintron killing his hype and moved up to JMW.

Even if he didn't retire he would have re-matched Hoya before he fought anyone. As Arum has been exposed, he is more interested in keeping his cash cows in house then co-promoting. The guy didn't even want to co-promote Mayweather vs De La Hoya. Cotto would have fought Margarito no matter what before fighting Mayweather. Arum would then have the rematch and possibly rubber match before Margarito-Cotto ever risked losing to Mayweather. Then as Pac moved up in weight he would have Pac fight them, sprinkling Clottey in. Then have outsiders sign with TR to get fights with his fighters all looking to play keep away trying to force Mayweather to sign with TR to get any money fights.

 

Mayweather has fought everybody of relevance in his era! De La Hoya, Mosley, Marquez, Corrales, Hatton, Castillio, Hernandez.....they are all going in the Hall of Fame!

He didnt fight Cotto & Margarito (who should be banned for life btw) because they were/are top rank fighters! Same goes for Pacquaio.

He will get round to fighting Pacquiao if the money is there and he can co-promote it! The less money Bob Arum makes out of this fight then the more it appeals in Floyd's mind.

I for one find his resume to be strong, and just because he doesnt fight every 6 months doesnt mean he cherry picks! Even Ortiz was a champion who many people on here and in the Media thought would be too strong for Floyd.

Mayweather will fight probably 3/4 more times in his career and they will all be big names and hopefully Pacquiao will be amongst them!

Mayweathers resume at WW may be weaker than it potentially could have been, but it's a hell of a lot better than pacs.

It's also quite apparent that floyds resume at 135 and over, is better than pacs resume at 135 and over.
Although Pacs resume at anything below 135 beats mayweathers

:good any publicity is good publicity and if your talking about boxing at this current time it's very hard for mayweather not to pop up into a conversation. That on top of the money he generates is more the reason of why he's such a great fighter. I can admit his resume could have been stronger but at the end of the day it's still good enough to be considered an ATG

 

Dude, why do you even bother commenting on a forum! Floyd Mayweather has fought the best of the best. Paul Williams is no-where near a top level fighter, Margarito has no fundamentals and would never have been competitive, Cotto is barely an elite level fighter.

Lets take a look at who Mayweather has fought since May 2007..

Oscar de la Hoya....Fight at 154 pounds, small gloves, small ring, Golden Boy Promotions show, betting at fight time was more or less even!

Ricky Hatton.....Undefeated Junior Welterwight fighter, pound for pound number 7 (The Ring).

Juan Manuel Marquez.....Pound for pound number #2 at the time of the fight, many in the media thought Floyd would have trouble after 18 months off.

Shane Mosley.....Pound for pound #4 at time of fight, Welterweight champion of the world, just coming off beatdown of Margarito (who many thought Floyd should have fought)....Floyd beat the **** out of him for 11 1/2 rounds.

Victor Ortiz....WBC Welterweight Champion, #2 in the Welterweight rankings behind Pacquiao, young, strong and game. Had dropped EVERY one of his opponents. Floyd won the first three rounds and then dropped him with a two piece with a biscuit.


Barring maybe Carl Froch, there is no other fighter who has fought that calibre of fighter in there last 5 fights! And i challenge you to name one!

He kinda came in 2006, cleared house, moved up for a fight, fought the lineal 140 at the weight as well, then retired. Big woop. He cleared house. None of those other guys ever did that. Then he came back, and he has cleared house again. He is 7-0, KO 3 at the weight and slowly building up a little 147 resume. That scares people I guess?
