Looks huge at 147, has good speed & a reasonable technique. However, he doesnt seem to have any real power or a high ring IQ & is fighting in an excellent division. Always thought Kell Brook would beat him & after his last fight I still think the same.
The ****er had a great opportunity last Sat. to excite the fans.I was there and his fight was booed all through the 12 miserable rounds.Vastly over rated and apparently a promoters hype job that HBO bought into(again).
He's a good fighter that is moving in the right direction. sHe's learning as he goes. He's going to be a very good champion. He doesn't need to be rushed. Bailey will be a good fight for him. After that, he should be ready for someone in the Berto/Ortiz caliber.
A very tall and very quick Welterweight, imo he lacks the power to get the world level operators out of the ring. I watched the last fight on the cotto - marg undercard and thought he should have got him out of the ring, forced a stoppage. However, I do believe because of his speed and physical attributes he could trouble most Welterweights.
Has a lot of natural gifts, but his footwork could use some work. He's gotten more cautious in the last two fights I saw him in which could be a good thing, but for how careful he is, he gets touched up too much. He let a lot of good openings pass rather than push the issue. Perhaps he needs a conditioning coach as it seems he's too conservative because he's afraid of gassing early. Plus he could use some help in the power department. Alex Ariza might be the answer. Stamina and punching power are two things Manny has credited to him and have seriously changed his game.
