Wow finally something good :good . He was always waiting for me to come in though and I kind of kept getting frustrated and went in a few times, which messed me up. I wasn't thinking right, really. Thanks for the advice!

no problem, well you said it yourself "was not thinking right" don't worry with time you will be more relaxed and be able to think clear and make decisive decisions when boxing, but it does not happen over night, you have to do it often enough and work out all the little kinks, then you will notice a difference

each time you spar work on one or two things only, preferable one offensive and one defensive, don't try to overload your brain with too many things in the beginning, when you feel comfortable with those things then try adding another, after a while you will have a decent arsenal of options

For you I suggest these 2 things

    1. Jab just jab don't worry about any other punch for a minute work on your jab find the pro's and con's of it

    2. Defense, keeping your guards up all the time, this must be a habit

with the 2 above accomplished you will have the basic tools to build upon

    I watched all three rounds-

    1) No coaches in the background coaching you
    2) MMA mats and room looked like a MMA/karate/kickboxing facility. Find a good boxing gym
    3) Fight boxers not MMA/karate/kickboxing people

    Hey a couple of things

Legs - keep them closer together. This will help you fight taller and improve your balance. It will also allow you to move away without the jerky upper body movement. When you jerk away using just ur hips, someone's gonna jump on you while your off-balance.

I don't think using the cups was a big deal. Most beginner's are head-hunters and if it's a hobby, why spend the money?

Headgear is worth the money though. It will take time to get used to not seeing as much, but it will save you a lot of cuts and bruises on the face. Unless you want to walk around with black eyes all the time.

Good eye! He is actually into chinese kickboxing or something like that, but he wants to do boxing. Anyway, next week I'm going to be fighting someone into boxing. With headgear.

Thanks for the comment on the legs. I'll try that, but I'd expect to get more power when the legs are spread out because of the increase torque right?
