He will walk into the hall of fame, and pretty much fought every challenger out there, but supposing he got the decisions against Felix Trinidad and Shane Mosley.....how would he be viewed?? As an all time great, or just as a stand out fighter in an average era?? I've always enjoyed watching Oscar box, and the Pacquiao fight aside, always thought he gave problems to everybody, but does his win/loss ratio in the defining fights just make him a "nearly man"? Thoughts!
hi, not trying to be a dick but there's dozens of other similar threads like this - have a search. consensus is that he was a very good fighter with a very solid chin, but probably not an ATG thanks
Great fighter in an awesome era. One of the fighters where its not black and white, you have to look at and judge for yourself. Oscar's kind of like Marquez in a way. There's the record and then there's what people saw and will remember.
Instead of not trying to be a dick, just ignore the thread dude! Don't post on it and move on to a new thread, maybe one about Floyd vs Manny cause I havn't seen many of those lately!
He was a great fighter imo. Me personally I believe he beat Tito and Mosley, and just because he didn't get the decision it doesn't mean he didn't beat those guys imo. I also think he beat Whitaker fair and square. It was an extremely close fight that could of gone either way, but no way was Whitaker short changed the way some would have you believe. I do however believe he lost Sturm and Quartey. I think guys like Genaro Hernandez, Ruelas, Oba Carr, Leija, Gatti, Rivera, Paez, Camacho are victories he had that get overlooked. Sure some a few of those guys were not GREAT fighters, but they were still very good fighters.
A great fighter IMO, should have had bigger wins on his resume (Trinidad and the 2nd Mosley fight) but considering he got his fair share of close decisions (Quartey, Sturm, Whitaker) it evened out. Also breathed life into boxing below the HW division bringing in new fans and showing the world that desssing up like a tranny is not always gay.
Very good, imagine this Oscar vs Pac or May, or this Mosley vs Pac or May. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGWtCqwMrpM[/ame]
I think the thing with Dela Hoya is that he's been shoved down so many peoples throats as this "Golden Boy" that people have become fed up with him and so try to minimize his accomplishments.
Id go for Oscar, his resume is stronger imo, the 90's are often overlooked when it comes to rating Oscar.
