There are a lot of those Cubans who are old already and shouldn't be on that list. Names like Hurtado, Casamayor, Gomez, Ledon, should be off, and there are others who never boxed in Cuba. Only the ones with solid Cuban amateur experience will make it far, there are many on that list that never did anything in Cuba, they started boxing here. The only exception is Socarras who was a top amateur here in the US.

The real list should only include the top Cubans, the ones who are most talented and have a real chance of becoming Champions. I would only have a list of about 15 or so ...

 

Santiago, not a bad year. So many cubans on the way up . Gamboa and Rigo still undefeated and YP Hernandez got a belt, Abril too.
Despaigne,Salinas;Lara,Jhonson,G Barthelemy,Franco;Ortiz;Dorticos;Barrera;Solis could be one fight or two from belts.The irishbased trio worry me nothing happening there

 

Unbeaten featherweight prospect Luis “La Estrella” Franco as been added to the show of this Friday, December 9 at the Kissimmee Civic Center in Kissimmee, FL as part of the popular and successful series of “Boxeo TELEMUNDO Ford”. Franco (10-0, 6 KOs), a former Olympian from Cuba now living in Miami, will put his undefeated record and world rankings on the line when he faces Leopoldo “Feroz” Gonzalez (11-4-1, 7 KOs) of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico in a bout scheduled for 8 rounds.

Promotion wise it has been an awfull year for Cuban boxers. The top 3 Gamboa, Rigo and Lara have been avoided heavily. its interesting that they are all promoted by top companies yet they do Nothing to help them. This whole fiasco with Rigos fight is a prime example. The Managers and the boxers need to do a better job at self promotions. I think that if all of the talented boxers start doing better it will encourage new ones to come out.

 

hope 2011 brings more action, specially for Rigo and Lara.Solis should be back in Feb,Franco should stay close a title shot.Gamboa will make noises 130 and above,maybe a showdown with Juanma at 130?,I have a feeling Rances will have a good year.Dorticos,Despaigne,Jhonson,Salinas,Santana,Socarras, Hernandez,Ortiz...plenty of people to make us proud.

 

We have to be patient. Cuban fighters do not have a big fanbase or sell big numbers of tickets or PPV. Managers and promotors of fighters from some countries do have an advantage but you cant deny quality so the chances gonna come for cubans too.

 

Rances is fighting Hylon Williams on FNF, interesting fight. Hylon is good, if featherfisted.

 

Yes, but it is frustrating to see that many of our top fighters, are being put aside, in a year when they should have done 5 -7 fights. Instead Rigondeaux 1 fight, Yan Barthelemy 1 fight, Luis Garcia without fights this year, Solis 1 fight, Gamboa, Franco, Santana, Alexei and Hernandez down to 2 fights, Lara and Jhonson down to three, etc.

On the other hand the number of total fights has increased due to the number of fights of some new entries like Salinas, Ortiz, Fiz, Socarras, or veterans like Lester, ...I would prefer if the elite had had at least the same average number of fights of this group ...

Besides our top 4 ( Gamboa, Rigo, Lara and Solis ), we have between 10-12 very solid prospects who will soon be very close to fighting for a World Title and all of them have a very good chance at becoming Champs.

According to an article in Irish Examiner.com 12/7/11- Mike Perez and Luis Garcia will be fighting 12/30/11 at Morongo Casino in Southern California. Lets hope its true and they stay state side.

 

Luis Franco won last night at Kissimie by Ko in 2 rds, just to stay busy

 

Yeah Franco won, but he was supposed to fight an eliminator against Escobedo, a clear case that the alphabet soups don't like Cubans, Morales vs. mathysse was off but they brought in a taxi driver to face Morales, guess what? The belt was on the line still....
