Solis: Ended his 108 dominance. Gave him his first stoppage loss. Segura: Gave him a cold-hearted welcome at 112. Gave him his first stoppage loss.
Probably Segura. Many thought Viloria was close to the end of his career, but he looked great. Alot of veterans having great victories and their careers reborn like Arce, Viloria, Salido, etc.
In terms of historical significance the Segura matchup but the solis fight was perhaps more monumental. Viloria/Segura kind of went under the radar because everyone thought Viloria was going to be fodder for Segura. The Viloria/solis fight wasn't and was much more highly publicized. Solis was building himself a filipino destroyer reputation and Viloria ended that. Even Filipinos dismissed Viloria but we end up getting a war with a shocking result. Viloria /Segura was a beatdown.
solis was the bigger win. a much better and dramatic fight too. and imo, archie is a better fighter than segura.
Solis was the bigger win. Solis was on a rampage and an impressive run of victories. Viloria at that time was rebuilding his career after a series of lackluster performances. Viloria who was a former world champ then fell to the bottom. He was written out and was literally fighting in tents and in obscure undercards just to get attention. he got his wish. Some promoter sponsored a fight in the philippines. Solis had a reputation as a filipino-killer and most people in the philippines expected viloria to pad Solis' resume. Viloria's performance in the fight was very great too. Viloria had been criticized as a lazy fighter, he never worked in most of his fights, he relied on his power too much and was always just waiting for an opportunity to counter. his losses were against boxers who had high workrate. But in the Solis fight, Viloria showed a new side of him. He pushed the fight and was always on the offensive. He had more output compared to solis and when Viloria was already running out of steam, he went for broke and scored an impressive KO
