i have more respect for both today than never before, win or lose

i had khan winning by i point but i can see why lost

he flat out ran sometimes and the holding and laying on the ropes too much

i think khan's obsession on showing he has a chin serves him bad

feels great for peterson, shame on that ref

I'm happy for Peterson, seems like a good guy. I thought he deserved it based on his aggression and Khan's spoiling tactics to be honest. 2 points was maybe a little harsh, but he deserved to have 1 taken away, that's for sure.

Yeah it was a great fight, I thought Khan edged it but it could have easily gone either way. But I think people are exaggerating how bad the ref was, the points deductions were fair enough

Although the guy who shows up to every Khan fight with the stupid horn should be punched

Fact, great entertainment value, regardless of your opinion on the referee/post fight comments etc...These kind of fights are why we all love the sport!

Khan ran. He could not trade with Peterson.
Still a great fight. Much better then expected.

Thats what i feel, he feels the need to act macho and take flush punches then showboat about it instead of getting on with the business.

Im glad Peterson won because throughout he did look more composed than Khan, Khan was very wild in there alot of the time throwing unaimed flurries whilst on the move. I had the fight 1 point up for Peterson 113-112, but both put on a great show was an exciting fight.

HOWEVER, khans attitude STUNK after the fight. Very bitter and im dissapointed in him for his arragonce.

Thought Khan sneaked it 113-112 with deductions. No robbery however. Coulda gone either way. I will add that point deductions for pushing are bollocks and pointed to a ref trying to aid the home fighter. To balance that Khan does a lot of holding and draping his left forearm over opponents neck and then hiting them at the same time. Lennox Lewis used to do that I recall. I suppose you could argue the points docked balanced things out?

****. That wasn't very coherent. Must get sleep.

Some people might be losing sight of this fact....Peterson deserves ALOT of credit. After his slow start, and strong surge in the middle rounds, I thought Khan would outwork him, and squeeze out a decision.*
But, Lamont dug deep and FOUGHT for that win. Regardless of judges, refs, or observers, Lamont fought his heart out and deserves credit. A loss for Amir right here might actually be good for him and his development. If he can work on his flaws, come back and beat Peterson (which he should be able to do), he can look back on this whole thing as a valuable experience.*
Aside from the off-color comments from Khan, both fighters stock rise after this

Agreed. No need for whining or calls of robbery. Great performance by Peterson and props to Khan for putting his belt on the line in his opponents home town. We'll all be looking forward to the rematch.

It was a great fight. It contained a suspenceful mix of ebb and flow for both fighters so whoever you were rooting for was at one point winning and at one point losing. I think Peterson won the fight but not taking anything away from Khan. He fought the best fight he could fight, it just wasnt good enough. No hate fokr the ref, all refs got certain things they will call and he was no exception. He even warned Petersons corner that if they delayed his fight again that he would take a point from Peterson. Petersons personally didnt win the fight, his skills and determination did and thats the only reason he deserved the decision. All and all, it satisfied the boxing fan in me. Cant wait for the rematch.:bbb:bbb:bbb

If you post in this thread, instead of the robbery/exposed/freddie roach threads, you're a good boxing fan, period. It was a close fight, and while I think Khan did enough to deserve the nod, I'm just happy we ended up seeing a great competitive matchup between two young fighters.

    thought's of doug.ie -

too much emphasis put on losses on records these days, back in the 'classic' era of the 40's / 50's lots of the top fighters had numerous losses on their records and if they lost they wouldn't be judged on one fight, like some seem to be doing this morning.........anyway..saying all that....last night was a great fight...a close fight...hard to score, i had khan one point up even after the deductions...but i would need to score it again to be confident...some of the rounds were close...commentators gave 7 and 12 as 10-8 rounds where i thought 12 was a 10-9 round with the deduction....and khan had him down early...an unusual type of fight to score i think...

i'll say this about khan.. he is savage fast..blistering...almost frightening watching him at times, and those punches look hard to me...his mistake, from this armchair critic, was not staying at long range all the time..he has the stamina...i know peterson was running after him closing him down at times, but other times khan seemed like he wanted to brawl with him...i dont see him making the same mistakes in a rematch, which i would back him to win in style.

    that's it....doug out.
