Just saw the Kahn-Peterson fight. I don't get the scoring of the last 3 of the fight. The two judges who scored the fight for Lamont gave the 10th and 11th to him. I don't see it. Lamont looked the worse for wear the last 3 - even if you could give Peterson the 11th, I think Khan clearly won the 10th where Peterson couldn't get close to him and basically did nothing but move forward being hit. I scored the fight 114-111 but could see 113-112. How did you guys score the last 3 rounds?

The less said about the referee the better. To get caught up with Peterson in the first so much that he trips was a disgrace and he was way to involved in the fight in general. I thought that Khan was using his elbows far too much and the pushing was slightly excessive, but Peterson was giving some nice headbutts in close as well. Also the pushing thing happens all the time - George Foreman Joe Frazier? It's not really a taking off points offence IMO.

Also, Khan would push 5 or 6 times and the ref would say nothing, then he would push again and the ref would warn him. Then another 6 pushes and he takes a point very suddenly. No, not how you do it. First be consistent - if you don't want pushing, warn every time. Don't make him think it's OK by ignoring most of the pushes so he continues to the point where you penalise him. It's totally insane. It's like Cortez - don't let Hatton hold, let Hopkins - be consistent and it's not a problem.

Second, you gotta warn the guy a point will be taken off before you do it. It's just the done thing - you have to say 'one more time and that's a point' not randomly after ignoring 3 or 4 previous pushes. This wasn't fair on Khan who lost the fight due to it, nor more importantly Peterson - I personally would not want to win a fight based on dubious point deductions if I was him.

To end though, what a fight. Loved Peterson's adaptation and all out assault to the body - I love the pressure fighting style - Joe Frazier would have been proud of that intensity and those hooks to the body as well as that heart! As for Khan; serious work is needed on his inside game and his tactics. Don't stand on the inside if you are not going to punch - either hold or move away. Or better learn to fight on the inside on equal terms so you are not reliant on pushing or running. The tactics of standing still giving away rounds whilst getting hit round your gloves to prove you can take a punch is also a fail - he gave away rounds on Saturday doing that - we know he can take a punch now I think - he's been clobbered repeatedly by both Maidana and Peterson and stayed upright - well done, stop doing it now.

    Sorry for the essay.

I was pretty shocked that the judges gave Peterson round 10. That was one of Khan's best rounds...

Khan got accused of running, the commentators (SKY) mentioned it the most during the 11th, I think Khan landed and threw more punches in this round, but maybe because of the negativity of Khan they gave this round to Peterson.

I gave all last 3 rounds to Khan. Round 11 was close Peterson just finished better. Minus the 1 point for pushing making the 12th 9 - 9.

Another thing, SKY gave the last round 10 - 8 to Peterson, and had an overall score of 113 - 112 to Peterson, had they scored it 9 - 9, they would have had Khan winning 113 - 112.

The biggest thorn for boxing is the inconsistant judging, it happens time and time again. Some judges look for punches landed, some for aggression. The boos around the ring are probably the best indicator when the judges get it wrong.

    spot on from the OP

i think khan did enough to not lose his belts,a draw would have been ok.

but i thought khan just won.

gbp and khan team let khan down with the ref and judges choice and venue choice.

also khan let himself down with the machoness and amatuerish defensive tactics

the head holding from khan and lunging with out much thought of what he throws at times did really annoy me.

hopefully hele get rematch, and iron out his defense and concentrate on boxing more than half boxing half brawling/running/getting on his bike.

I gave Khan 9, 10 and 11. They were close, and I can see why two of them could have been given to Peterson - who was the aggressor. However, one of them was the round in which Khan had Peterson badly hurt. That was one of his best rounds in the second portion of the fight, and I was really surprise to see that not be given to him.

As for the warnings, the ref did say to Khan it was his last warning when the first dedcution occurred. However, he said it in the midst of action. He really should have stopped the time and given Khan a stern, clear warning by pulling him to the side. And yes, I agree that the final one was inconsistent. Khan had been spoiling consistently, yet he waits right until the last round to come along and deduct another point? At a time where the fight was hanging in the balance?

Sure, Khan was fouling, but far worse things happen all the time in boxing that go unchecked. Refs need to be consistent.

I apologize in advance for the following lengthy post:
Khan got his ass whooped. He lost not because of the ref. Not because of the Judges, and not because of head butts.
He lost because Peterson whooped his ass and he couldn't take it.
    I didn't mean to write a book.
    The end.

Khan was bullied from round 3 on.. Yes he had his moments but on a whole he was quite negative and being man handled around a ring never usually transpires to winning a close decision. **** me get over it, he lost a close fight and is doing his level best to convince the world he was robbed in favour of a fighter who is not in his class. Disrespectful little cretin.
