'As we've seen' :yep "I even coined a phrase for it." Nothing wrong with being proud of yourself I suppose :good Ike Williams twice on film demonstrated what seemed to me like an unstoppable, aggressive attack to the degree of which is rarely seen in boxing at that level. Secondary sources cite reference accurate in accordance with this footage and so therefore I assume I can trust other secondary sources on reports of Williams' other knockouts, describing his ferocious ability as being up there as far as the scale will read for lightweights. There's my statement and I'm sticking with it out of belief. Williams was amazing. You'll probably tell me Stanley Ketchel was better.
More perplexed; it's difficult not to be in the line of questioning like "; did you stop to think that aside from sheer concussion there is another way to assert yourself as a great puncher;". This is boxing 101, and you've been trying to force this point like it has meaning for some time. It's seen all the time in boxing at that level. Zarate, Tyson, Lopez, Olivares, Gomez, Louis, the list of fighters that deliver "unspoppable, aggressive attack"s on film goes on and on and on, Williams doesn't look special to the degree in these few minutes that make him seem so vastly superior in the reems of film of these other fighters knocking other men unconscious whilst throwing wonderful punches in combination. It doesn't make any sense to insist it is otherwise, at all. Of course there are other ways to distinguish yourself as a puncher, but the best puncher on film will tend to score clean KO's. I wouldn't put Williams in the top 50 punchers on film, probably. My point all along. But it's also true that you can do this with many other fighters, most of whom will have superior KO percentages and more knockouts. I doubt it. Better? No, I won't tell you that. I'd rank him higher as a puncher and on an ATG list though. I'd be interested to see if you can produce an ATG p4p list laid down by an historian that has both men on it and has Williams higher?
--If it reflected a description of his style found in 14 fight reports and the testimony of eyewitnesses, then it sure would look like visual confirmation.
See! Confirmation! "Loveliness" described in print matches "loveliness" of visual clip! Holman was lovely. Everyone can agree on that.
How 'bout big props for S89 as a tireless gumshoe and dean of historians, not to mention his prose, which harken back to the Golden Age of Leibling.
