WTF is with WBA "Super Champion"

Ward beat Kessler for WBA World Champion belt.later he was awarded the "super champion" belt for sitting on his couch and watching Oprah.

 

So how exactly is he a paper champion?

 

The super champion basically is the champion the WBA likes to show off as their champion (marquee fighter) and let him do as he places.

The regular champion performs the duties of a world champion and doesn't ever get the opportunity to fight the super champion.

cause he didn't fight anyone for his "Super Champ" strap.literally

 

Yeah he got elevated but the "paper" champ is the guy who got regular title. Not the guy who beat former champ and was elevated to super champ status

 

no Kessler was upgraded to super champ before the S6 started off and Ward won that super belt by beating him..

 

nobody said anything before that fight about Kessler being Super Champ.if i remember right the "super champ" was given to Ward when they made Kessler emeritus,so long after that fight

 

They elevate a regular champ to "Super Champ" status whenever they feel like it. Particularly if there are other fighters in the division they can make good money off in sanctioning fees by freeing up the regular title for them to fight for. That's all it's about really. When a fighter beats a Super Champ, it's easier for the WBA to just hand over the Super Champ status in order to continue generating two or more sets sanctioning fees, collecting them with the Interim belt aswell.

They even stated in a public notice recently, [defending their action of handing Maidana an Interim belt right after he lost to Khan for the regular title and same week Khan defended his title], that they can and will create and hand out as many Interim belts as they please, especially if there is a dominant champion in a division, so's to give more fighters a chance of winning a title and calling themselves a champion who otherwise might never get the opportunity. WBA really is an absolute joke.

All you need to know is that every sanctioning body is shamelessly corrupt.

of course it was reported, at the press conference when the S6 was announced they said Kessler got upgraded so the he doesn't have to worry about mandatories while the S6 takes place also the WBC and WBA belts would get unified sooner or later anyway.. just check boxrec, you'll see that Ward-Kessler was for that super belt while Sartison won the vacant regular belt on the same day Ward-Kessler fought.

Kesslers got some WBC emeritus belt after he quit the S6, he won that WBC belt by beating Froch before
