If Froch were to win tomorrow, rematch kessler and get the win. Imagine he then temps Joe out of retirement for a british (and world) superfight. If Calzaghe were to win would it finally silence the doubters on Joes Remumé Need to think of a but............. What do you think? Would Joe then be the greatest British fighter ever?
No, what would a retired calzaghe prove by fighting froch? A prime calzaghe would bamboozled a prime froch, froch style's is taylor made for calzaghe
I would agree with that and there would be a **** load of money on the table for it. Calzaghe would prove that he can beat the best of the crop that has emerged since he retired!!!
If Froch beats Ward and Kessler and then Smokin Joe comes back to beat him, it would be an incredible feat. It would be a HUGE fight in the UK and Calzaghe would probably finally get the respect he deserves. If Calzaghe is 100%, he will outbox Froch for probably 12 rounds. Froch will have absolutely no way of winning - he can't break Joes chin, he can't match his fitness and technically he won't have a scooby dooby doo. The greatness would be in the fact that Calzaghe hasn't been living the life, he isn't really training like a martial artist/boxer, he has been doing coke, hollywood and its already been 3 years since Joe fought, probably 4 by the time these two would fight. Calzaghe would also be 40 years old. I think the win could make him the best british fighter ever, maybe only Lewis could contend. In reality it would move Joe from being a great fighter to the all time bracket where guys like Sugar, Ali, Marvelous and the Hitman hang out.
I actually have no desire to see this fight. Beating Froch wouldnt do that much for his legacy, i dont think he'd be given the credit he should for it. Casual fans think Calzaghe is amazing, unbeaten bla bla bla His detractors are hard core fans who resent him for his resume, beating Froch wouldnt win them over so the only thing JC would gain is making a shitload of cash.
This is the kind of post that I was trying to ween out of someone and I agree 100%. I think it would be impossible to argue against him being an ATG if he were to pull it off. You also have to consider the weight factor!!!
Only by that time and in the context of the thread, JC would be beating the absolute 'man' at the weight which everyone considers to be one of the richest in the sport!!!
Yeah but Will, it never ends...he'd be ducking Bute, then the next guy. If its one fight then for me, it dont make no difference. He's beating a guy that 85% of people would tip him to beat anyway. Comes back for 2-3 fights, then he'd jump a few places on everyones lists
I sort of agree with what you are saying except for the fact that he will have beaten the concencus no1 at the weight. For aguements sake throw in a bute win inbetween for Froch.
People really need to stop saying that "Froch's style is taylor made for so and so". Froch is one of the most awkward fighters in boxing. A stylistic nightmare for anyone.
How is his style a nightmare for a man with superior boxing skills? Taylor for eg, dealt with Froch with ease, wouldnt JC?
I'm a big fan of Froch but I have to admit that I think Calzaghe would have been a nightmare for him. Having said that I would never count Froch out because of his will to win. I do suspect it would have been a wide points decision if it had happened.
If Froch won tomorrow and Calzaghe beat him, he'd then need to fight Kessler (beat Froch) Ward (beat Kessler), then there'd be Bute, then Dawson. There's always somebody. Plus all fight would need to be at 175. He'd never silence everybody. That said, that Froch win, may surpass Hopkins as his best win given his inactivity.
People still talk as though Taylor was winning 11 rounds to 0. That was a close fight. Froch fought well when he got himself together.
