could a klit fight be staged in oz?

Theres lots of positives about making this kind of fight in Australia. It could definately be done.


Australia has two, solid, workable time slots to reach offshore markets and make it worthwhile. Each of the two could be fed live into one, of the two largest markets, Europe and the USA, but niether into both.


Early afternoon, so say Sydney 2pm is 10pm in New York and 7pm in LA. So a big daytime event is definately possible to reach the US market in primetime. It's a daytime event here in OZ so you could have it on a Saturday or Sunday and give yourself a choice of a Friday or Saturday night screening in the US.
This timeslot is not the best option for a European dominant screening though because 2pm Sydney time is 7am in Moscow and 3am in the UK. So Europe would probably have a 5-9 hour tape delay for a lunchtime screening.

Since a Klitschko fight would draw larger viewing numbers from Europe the second option would be best.

An Evening event with a headline fight around 10pm gives you a live lunchtime feed across Europe. 10pm in Sydney is 11am in the UK, Noon in Germany and 3pm in Moscow. Would work quite well. The time into the USA for a 10pm Sydney fight is 3-6am so you'd probably sell to HBO or whoever wants it and they'd have enough lead time to edit a very decent 1-2 hour package to screen in the afternoon or evening.



Local media would love having the Heavyweight champ in the country. Wladamir would be the best option as his English is better, he is better looking and he seems to be able to charm most of the journalists he interacts with. His media efforts in the UK before the Haye fight were top notch.

Our biggest events peak at about 4 million viewers these days so 2 million viewers in Australia would seem possible. Maybe add in another 500k from NZ as well.

I've seen some Klitschko viewing numbers in Germany and they seem to sit at around the 10-15 million level. So if you didn't lose too large a number out of this with a daytime airing then it could work.

Gate takings here shouldn't be a problem either. There is enough footy fans/casual fight fans in either Sydney or Melbourne to fill any stadium.

Shouldn't have a problem selling the fight to a local network either.

 

I think your a bit casual about those 2 mate. Tarver is just as meaningfull a boxer to the casual aussie sports fan as a white eastern euro heavyweight partial champ, and yet Tarver could notb fill SEC, even against a local boy.

 

What's the gate receipt record for a fight down under ( modern era ) ? and can anyone honestly see more than 5,000 people paying 30 quid to watch a klitores smack one of your crap heavyweights out in two rounds ? because that's what going down if one of your heavys face one of the brothers ( sad but true ) Face it lads you are geographically challenged with just one heavy to pin your hopes and dreams on ( and he's from western Samoa ) few fighters go to Australia in their prime ,why would they ? It's the back of beyond in world boxing terms ,

That's some serious gate money but I reckon none of the brothers will go down under to defend , Haye v Vlad would be good to stage there( peoples hatred of the English down under would ensure a figure double that ) talking about your countrys hatred of Britain did you hear that mongol keating spouting off again ? I suppose but he will probably want to join in the commonwealth though .

 

I remember guys like Ali and Frazier fought in Malaysia and the Phillipines back in the 70's, so I guess on that logic, you could argue the possibility of a Klitschko fight in Australia.

But the only reason to question it is who and why would it want to be staged here?

If the money was right, then who knows, it could happen.
