Hamed/ Kelley : One of the best fights of the last 15 years

Kelley talked more **** than Hamed.Hamed dropped him like a sack of ****,and Kelley had the audacity to say that Hamed wasn't that great a puncher !!!

 

I actually like Mallignaggi.

Only problem he has is that he cant hit hard. And in a way,that makes him more admirable, because he still trades and has to go the distance with big punchers.

The guys as tough as nails. If he could punch,he'd be up there in p4p status.

And personality wise he does demind me a little of naz.

 

Hameds hands were ****ed and he was past prime by the time he bought Barrera. He become far far too confident. Victim of his own success at such a young age and didn't train properly anymore.

Then came up against an ATG in Barrera who was fired up for the fight and ready

 

I think of it more like a Foreman-Lyle of the featherweights due to its back-and-forth knockdowns.

 

Kelley was involved in some really entertaining bouts.

His bout with Troy Dorsey was a crazy display of punch output on both sides (particularly Dorsey who was like a damn windmill). His fight with Alejandro Gonzalez was fun. His first scrap with Derrick Gainer was a terrific fight.

 

One of my most favourite fights in terms of build-up, the trash talk and the fight itself. Very under rated bout. Many people under rate Nas also as a fighter. As already said, prob the hardest hitting featherweight of all time. I know Emanuel Steward said he thought he was pound for pound the hardest hitter.
Personality wise he had too many haters and the ego got the best of him which is why he lost to Barrera. If he kept the same trainer and worked out harder he could've been an ATG, I have no doubt whatsoever. Them last few fights don't do him justice since he started neglecting his defense way too much. It's a shame he ****ed up so much potential. Will probably never see anyone as flamboyant again for a long time.

 

Hamed was a true one-off. Wasn't the Kelley fight where Nas flew in on the magic carpet? Haven't seen it for a while.

 

It's what boxings missing these days. A fighter than can talk the talk but can back it up in the ring. Dont get me wrong, Floyd is in that category no doubt, but its more boxing science with him than brutal KOs. Partly why boxing has lost so much appeal.

 

I would have loved to have seen a rematch.

I swear George Foreman is in love with De La Hoya. He always brings him up in any fight even though its irrelevant

 

And despite what some people say, Kelley was still a world class fighter at this stage.
