Americans, why aren't you in an uproar over the referee tonight?

    What does Smoger have to gain from favoring anyone? He doesn't give a **** Americans arent as nationalistic as some. This notion in general is crazy as ****.

    Froch should keep it close, probably a two or three point margin with Ward deserving the win but the judges will have Ward winning by a much wider margin.

    Someone said in another thread that the Super 6 rules state that the official should be neutral? Froch has had 4 non-British referees, Dirrell had an American ref for the Abraham fight, Abraham didn't have a German/Armenian ref, Kessler didn't have a Danish or Scandinavian ref, Ward has had an American, a Mexican/American and a Puerto Rican.

    Fair? No, it isn't. The Americans should have had Canadian referees or even better, South Americans.

    Is it a rule that the referees must be neutral?

    The state commission appoints the officials. It is at their discretion. You don't want promoters choosing them, do you?

    I'm still mind-boggled that people are complaining about Smoger.

    And that there is a British judge and a neutral judge (canadian, I believe).

    Is this a confidence thing? In that your not entirely confident Froch will win, and want to have your excuses ready in that event.

    Just curious.

    Smoger is as fair as they come. Plus there are neutral judges.

    So what's the issue?

    Had Steve Smoger (A highly qualified referee) been English and if on the same token this fight had taken place in England, all of you posting US flags and attacking me over this very reasonable thread, would have been in an uproar, there is no two ways about it.

    An injustice to one person is an injustice to EVERY PERSON.

    I don't think its fair, even though I like Steve Smoger, I think a neutral referee should've been appointed.

    How is it reasonable to complain about a well respected and unbiased ref, before the fight even begins, based solely on nationality?

    I agree that refs should come from neutral countries but there are exceptions...Smoger is probably one of them.

    Since Froch benefited from a horrible ref already in this tourney (Hector Afu), he might object to a competent one in Smoger though.

    The point of this thread was to expose the double standards on these boards, some of the very people claiming "the ref won't be a factor", would've been here crying had Steve been English and the fight scheduled in London.

    I'm with you BR, I honestly like Steve Smoger, I do. But you know as well as I do, had this been roles reversed, there'd be a lot of crying right about now.

    I think the premise of the thread has merit and should be considered but I also have to agree with most on here who praise Smoger. The guy is top notch and I will be shocked of he shows Ward any favoritism.

    Well maybe not shocked, more like mildly suprised and wildly dissapointed.
