I'm not sure which commentator mentioned this last night, but it was said that Ward believes Brits or Euros have weak bodies. He was supposed to make it a point to target Carl's body.
I think it's because British fighters don't tend to come up against good quality body punchers on their way up through the ranks. Hatton Calzaghe Froch Khan All of them have struggled with body shots at some point. Khan was nearly bent double by Michael Gomez a few years ago, whilst Hatton was forced to hold by Urango and softened up by Floyd too in the middle rounds.
Just that they don't know how to fight inside. How to protect themselves. It's so weird, that all Ricky Hatton had was an inside game. But otherwise, it's true. Kessler, Khan, Froch. All clueless about infighting.
Did he say it was more a technical flaw of Europeans (however the **** you can pigeon-hole a style based on where someone is from like that and have a job as a commentator) on their ability to defend the body?
Froch does have a glass body. In his fight with Johnson you could see the pain stricken on his face when Johnson hit him to the body. Bute would stop Froch with body shots. Ward isn't powerful enough to finish Froch or anyone in the top 10 at SMW.
