It's pretty clear that it wouldn't have made much difference IB.Just making the point that Carl seems to be making a habit of this.

Did the Showtime interviews not air on SKY then?

He definitely admitted as much. He'd thought to keep Ward off beyond his jab using movement as he did against AA. :conf

Besides, I agree with PTF here:

It would have altered nothing. Any training Froch did to do battle on the inside could very well have been time wasted. Maybe their mentality was "hell with it, why bother? (if Ward is that far ahead in that area of the game to begin with, what's one camp going to do to narrow the gap?) Let's focus on our real strengths..."

Still, if they knew Ward was a beast up close it was McCracken's lot to come up with something to neutralize that...something more than hoping AW would be awestruck by Carl's jab and not dare diving past it. (as he did, all night) If not beat Ward on the inside, figure out a way to keep Froch the hell away from close quarters by hook or by crook. Tie up, use some elbow thrusts when the ref was on the other side of Ward, step on his feet to give him a little shove off balance and then back away, etc. - something.

Point taken about CF trending toward not listening of late, though. He did talk a great deal in the build-up about how deep his respect runs for Robert's boxing knowledge, but...maybe that isn't a bottomless well...

    :deal

I think Ward shocked many on how good he was on the inside, sort of like Floyd against Hatton.

    :yep

What's sad about that is that probably 90% of Ricky's training was done with forcing an inside fight in mind.

Maybe to the general public but many on here knew the deal with Wards inside game

Watt was well off going on about how no one expected Ward to back up Froch, it was like he had not watched his previous fights and just assumed Ward was Andre Dirrell 2.0

    yep :-(

Judging by a lot of comments I have seen you don't like Ricky, why? :(

I struggle to see why people hate him so much but then people tell me that before I came here he had the worst fans going! :-(

I knew Ward had a good inside game, but I was shocked by his strength! Guy is a tank!

    Watt annoys me these days!

They're still around today - they're the same ones who strike up those modified Winter Wonderland chants for all & sundry British boxers.

I don't mind him as a person and would actually jump at a chance to hit the pub with him (and maybe do a few lines out back :yep) - but his style is horrendous. :!: Sorry. No man should be that grabby except on his honeymoon. I don't mind odd strategic clinching here and there, but FFS he was flypaper.

I hope the line bit is a joke IB!
I understand that to anyone outside of the UK them chants can be annoying but in general don't you think Ricky's fan base was good for boxing?
Hahahaha, he is a bit of a spolier, amazing body puncher though!!!
Yeah as a person I would LOVE to meet him, it is also good that he is promoting/training now!

It was a joke, yes. Tried the stuff once as a young man, not for me. Nothing but :cheers for me these days.

Ricky's fan base helped British boxing to be sure, but there were also Calzaghe and Lewis (earlier on) in the same era so it isn't like the British scene over the last decade-plus collapses if you take him out of the picture.

Very, very good body puncher. If the object of the game was to lean against each other and trade whacks to the sides, he might have racked up an even better record than 45-2 (which is extraordinarily impressive as it is, given how well-rounded he wasn't).

I just personally never enjoyed watching him all that much, and pretty much from the high point of his career (Tszyu) it was all downhill for both his entertainment value and his ability.
