Ward is better than Calzaghe, would beat Calzaghe, and will soon be the #1 SMW ever.

Excellent post, you hit the nail on the head here. Captain Boxrec Bailey needs to get a life, and get it through his skull that nobody buys the pile of crap he calls his posting history. :good

Wards a great fighter but he was getting tired in rounds 11-12 vs Froch. A prime Calz. would have been pressing Ward constantly, making him work much harder than Froch did, causing Ward to tire out much earlier and lose a UD to Calz.

very true, ward was tired in the last 2 rounds and was close to switching into survival mode, nobody sets a pace like calzaghe, its possible that ward would be feigning low blows and crying to the referee like hopkins did in the last few rounds to try and catch his breath.

what we saw on saturday night with froch was what we have seen twice before - dirrell outboxed froch and was robbed (due to his negativity and fighting in nottingham), and jermain taylor did a
very similar job on froch but he tired out even worse than ward did and got caught in the last round.

its important to remember that dirrell and taylor laid the blueprint to beat froch and its important not to go overboard and give unwarranted praise to ward too early for a victory in a very weak 168 era.

there seems to be too much over-hyping going on from ward fanboys at the minute, especially from those that have spent their entire esb history hating on the undisputed greatest supermiddleweight in history - joe calzaghe.

lets judge andre ward 5 years from now, lets see how ward copes with

    - different styles of fighters (dirrell, bute etc)
    - longevity (lets see if ward is a flash in the pan (like jermain taylor) due to a win over a very limited fighter in froch)
    - adversity (lets see if ward can cope with fighting in adversity or just folds like a lawn chair in times of trouble like roy jones)
    - lets see if ward can handle fighting abroad with foreign referee's
    - lets see if ward can pass all his anabolic steroid tests (unlike toney, mosley, jones)

ward has done everything asked of him so far but its important that fanboys do not throw greatness at him. lets sit back for the next 5 years and see if ward can earn that accolade.

Green - Who the **** has Green ever beat to ******t a top 10 place at super middleweight let alone being seen as some kind of elite fighter that can possibly be used in an arguement to prop up Ward resume, hopefully he can improve at light heavy.

Abraham - Different animal at Middleweight where he was a devastating puncher and feared, at super middleweight he didnt punch as hard nor could get anywhere near fighters who could control the tempo and distance of a fight, he would shell up for the 1st half of a fight before being battered in the last half. Worth noting he was on a two fight losing run prior to the Ward fight

Froch - Very good win for Ward to have on his resume, dont pretend that Calzaghe would not win as wide if not wider.

Kessler - Calzaghe beat a better version of Kessler which is pretty common knowledge, afterall a fighter with two eyes is better than a fighter with one eye.

Miranda - Still a massive puncher at the weight but you cant pretend that he had not already been battered by Abraham and Pavlik whilst fighting at his best weight during his prime. Good win but nothing to go crazy about.

Bika - Calzaghe beat this guy more impressively whilst having to deal with some pretty nasty butts.

Ward has a decent resume at this point but lets not jizz in our pants over a few guys that Calzaghe would have (or in some of the cases did) beat conclusively himself.

I think whoever wins in Bute vs Ward will be considered better then Calzaghe.

so if bute beats ward, that means he has one top win at 168 and that makes him the greatest supermid of all time :lol::lol::rofl

what if butes next 3 fights =

    W KO WARD
    L PTS FROCH
    L KO KESSLER

does that make bute a greater supermiddleweight than calzaghe :nut

stop trying to throw greatness at fighters before they have truely earned their stripes :deal

Another speculation thread built up around the wet dreams of an Internet geek.

Ward is elite. Calzaghe was elit. There is no given outcome in match ups like that. Beating Froch proves nothing in terms of beating Calzaghe.

Congrats to **** people off though, which of course was the real point with this thread. Not having a serious discussion about boxing.

    how about this:
    -ward beats his mando
    -bute beats froch
    -kessler beats stieglitz

    ward beats kessler again
    bute beats froch again

bute beats ward convincingly (either 118-112 or KO after leading on scorecards) then moves up to LHW

would he thenn be considered better than calzaghe and #1 SMW ever?

    again, this is all hypothetical.

calm down. no need to get worked up.

i was asking IF, when they eventually meet, bute beats ward, would he then be considered better than calzaghe? this would mean that bute beat froch to get to ward (since he is now "undeserving")

now do you understand my question?

While I don't think Ward has surpassed Calzaghe as the greatest SMW, I also think you can't hold him to artificial barometers for him to do so. He has already fought tougher competition early than Joe did early. So, he wouldn't need 5 years or what not to surpass Joe. At least not in my book. The clock has already been ticking for 2 years since he beat Kessler.

Give him 2 or 3 decent fights, plus Bute and its a done deal. If he were to lose after that to a good fighter, well, it happens when you take on tough challenges. That could take less than 2 years.

He could flame out and never win another fight at this point. Who knows for sure?

    I do agree with this.

Bute would have significantly more to do than Ward to catch Calzaghe.

Unbelievable how many wants to suck Andre ward. He has not accomplished anything yet.

Only a stupid person would see his victory against froch as anything but a fight against a very limited fighter who would not even be top 40 fighter in the world.

Take the current version of darchinyan, rank darchinyan anywhere from among your top fighters, and then add 30 places lower and you will have froch.

I don't think anyone cares about where you rank darchinyan a fighter smaller than most girls.

Ward from 25 to 27 years of age has dominated Miranda, Kessler, Green, Bika, Abraham, and Froch in basically consecutive fights.

I could find ten women in any supermarket who would pummel vic into the cement if he opened his child-sized yapper.

As of right now no too early. Calzaghe still holds the crown. I would have loved to see these two get in the ring both of these guys have a high ring iq. It would have been one hell of a boxing match.
