Just sick of hearing all of this none sense about him being p4p number 3. He's only beaten Williams and Pavlik, both of whom have looked unimpressive since and PW was unproven at MW. He also gets hit a lot and I'm sick of hearing him call out smaller guys. PBF, Pac, JMM, Ward, Gamboa are all clearly above him and he hasn't proved beyond douht he's the best of the rest.
im a fan and with his late start he is incredible but p4p 3 is just way too high i think ppl got a little overboard on his Williams KO he isnt a bad fighter but hes not top 5 there are several other guys who have done just a little more on the big stage
Martinez is definitely overated, he couldn't clearly beat Cintron, lost to Williams and beat an exposed, drunken version of Kelly Pavlik, he's good bit **** he isn't fighting anyone at all...he should be in the top 20 tho...
Nope, he's not. And mainly because P4P lists are just fanboy bull**** to argue and cry about. And I've seen very few tout him as anything but the MW champ. I suspect his calling out Pac or Floyd is the main culprit for the attacks.
No he deserves to be in the top 5. Williams was steamrolling threw everybody and his own loss he quickly avenged. Williams was also considered one of the most avoided from 147-160. Critics were quick to notice his defense something everyone already knew, but noone was in a hurry.to expose. Volume puncher, ko puncher, and a southpaw made Williams avoided. Plus wins over highly.regarded Dzin, Cintron, and Pavlik plus the Euro champ thats not a great, but its still a respectable and impressive resume. His age and the manner he wins them gain him more respect. One of the best 154lbers ever.
Well yes he obviously is described as p4p nuber 3 a lot. He's good and legit MW champ but not quite what he's being made out to be and yes all the calling out and slagging off Pac is anoying.
Elchivito. He's clearly not one of the top LMW's ever, he did very little on the world scene at that weight. He's good yes but how has he done any more than Gamboa or Bradley? I'd rate Hopkins above him tbh.
P4P doesn't over rate any fighter, the media and the fans do. P4P list is nonsense n everyone has a different list.. Pac just got schooled n he's ranked #1.. Floyd has only fought once n the last yr and a half n won via suckerpunch and he's ranked #2. Sergio isn't over rated, he's a Damn good fighter that's stopped the last 3 fighters he's fought. Dzindzurik n Barker were undefeated n from I remember Williams was ranked #3 on the Rings P4P list when Serge KO'd his ass. Not to mention NOBODY expected him to beat Pavlik.
:thumbsup Good post. All these "Is XXX overrated?" or "XXX is overrated because vblah blah..." threads are ****in stupid because they are based on what the most fanatical of fans say.
I agree he gets a tad bit overrated by some...but did you actually watch that Cintron fight???:huh Its no way on God's green earth that fight should have been scored a draw...Martinez did beat Cintron clearly to earn a victory over him.
Sergio is one super hot and sexy Half Irish gentleman. Sergio has my permission to wear my daughter the **** out all he wants.
Of course he's overrated. There's been at least three threads on the very subject over the past day or so. Draw with glass heart Cintron (Yes, I know he was robbed, still not that impressive). Loss to P.Williams. Win against alcoholic Pavlik. (Decent win, just decent) Win against P.Willams. (Very good win, no one's saying it wasn't) Dzinziruk was a stay-at-home, padded record junior middleweight, don't care what anyone says. Barker fought once outside the U.K. before the Martinez fight. Not that many fights under his belt, another padded record. Unimpressive. Is his recent record really that impressive? I don't think so. He's overrated without a doubt and doesn't the deserve the tag of P4P #3.
Andre Ward deserves the 3# but there are too many Anti-Irish racist haters out there preventing him from the taking the spot.
