    This guy still fighting?

    What's the forum's opinion of him, is he universally derided? Or is he considered an underrated master tactician?

    A much loved warrior who was a h2h nightmare for anyone at anytime, always came to fight and was a HOF lock and an ATG.

    One of, if not the, least talented fighters to ever hold a HW belt. Got rated because of his connections with King, and then got favorable treatment from refs and judges for his illegal holding tactics. Faked "low blows" to get crucial point deductions or prevent a KO in more than one fight.

    Basically a glorified clubfighter who would have been lucky to win a regional title without his connections to King.

    Had a hilarious cornerman named Norman Stone (Stoney) that was 6000 times the entertainment Ruiz could ever provide.

    One of the best ever. Masterful boxer, gentleman outside the ring. Demolished ATG Holyfield. Was gobbed against SNV in their amazing trilogy.

    Also one of the best chins ever in HW boxing. Boxing so many ATGs and barely ever went down :deal

    Not that this is one of those threads, but I always had/have a fear that one day new boxing fans will come along and think he was great. What's worrisome is that the new boxing fans will have a point, but this of course will be without ever seeing him fight.

    When looking back at this era of boxing new fans will see he has wins over Evander Holyfield, Kirk Johnson, Rahman, Oquendo, Golota, McCline, and close decision loses to Valuev and Chagaev. All of those guys were top 10 contenders at some point and a lot of them held a version of a championship.

    Hopefully then the new fans coming along will watch a Ruiz fight and get the rest of the story, but yes this is a concern of mine regarding the future generation of boxing historians/fans.

    One of the most horrific fighters to watch. I am so glad he is gone. Should of never been allowed to wear a belt.
