Would you say Floyd Mayweather Junior is the CURRENT linear welterweight champion?

Floyd's retirement basically screwed things up.
I would say there is arguably no lineal WW champ since Pac and Floyd, both numbers 1 and 2 for quite some time, haven't fought each other yet.

It could've easily been FMJ had he not retired after he fought Mosley.

The question there is "valid," my man. The referee himself released a statement to the press stating that Ertle's DQ victory over Williams was a no-decision bout and that the title should not change hands.

    Thus, mine goes from Williams > Herman > Lynch > Herman > Buff > Lynch > Goldstein > Martin > *********.

And i have removed you from my ignore list :lol::lol:

Mayweather won it off Baldomir. He retired and vacated it. Margarito beat Cotto and Mosley beat Margarito. Then Mayweather beat Mosley and retired again.

I agree that it's vacant, but the closest to it is FMJ. FMJ was lineal WW champ by beating Baldomir. He then obtained the 154lb crown by beating Oscar. He vacated it to keep his 147lb crown, beat Hatton then retired. Manny beat Cotto @ a catch-weight for a paper title that he picked up off some bum, and the belt that FMJ vacated was the WBC that Andre Berto had. Manny didn't beat Mosley better: not to mention he waited until he lost to FMJ and arguably lost to Sergio Mora. Manny also didn't fight or beat Margarito @ 147 it was a catch-weight for an 154lb title.

You dont vacate a linear title for being inactive for a year and a half. Dempsey didn't fight for 3 years and he was still heavyweight champion.

Did he retire? You are aware Floyd did say he was retiring at the time. That changed everything whether you like it or not.

    This.

There's no way that May/Ortiz was for the lineal title. Ortiz' only fight at WW prior was beating Berto, who really hadn't done much before then (Quintana is arguably the only "top" name he faced).

IMO the lineal title is vacant right now, and can only be re-established by the winner of Pac/May. No less.

Yes the referee did and I don't for one second believe that he became the best bw in the world, however the result was never overturned nor proved to be corrupt and thus by lineage the title changed hands that night.

I'll respond by pm incase this gets lost in the murky depths of the general :-(

This Mayweather - Pacquiao story is getting ridicously boring. Aren't you tired debating the same stuff every day of the week?
