Dude, it would be great if he really took some time to reflect while incarcerated. Hopefully he does and comes out more focused on what he needs to do for his legacy. It's still not too late.
Tyson beat up Robin Givens, then proceeded to spend years in the pen because he was convicted of literally Raping a *****, yet ya'll aren't on every Tyson thread spewing this ****? In terms of his "character", the way he acts, etc...Tyson interrupts a ***** during an interview telling her he doesn't talk to women unless he fornicates with them...yells to reporter I'll **** you til you love me ******...tells Jim Grey that he fought with a broken back "spinal"...he bit a dude's ear damn near off his head in a PPV boxing match...I mean he is literally the textbook definition of a shitty person, with a shitty attitude, who didn't respect anyone or anything, yet I don't see this same cast of characters in every Tyson thread spouting on about womens rights and their disdain for violence against women? I don't understand the inconsistancy of the idea. I have no problem with the idea in general, I have a wife and daughter who I love dearly and would never hit, but I don't understand how it's relevant in terms of your opinion of Floyd, but not in reference to opinions of others?
I'm sorry, good points. But your description of Tysons' transgressions was ****in' hilarious!!! :rofl:rofl:rofl
Tyson is the very archetype that Mayweather built his character on. He was ABSOLUTELY despised in his prime, and that was the impetus for his high PPV sales, no different than Floyd. Tyson has only become more likable over time because he's been in fewer incidents of late and has stopped taking himself so seriously. The hate for Mayweather will subside over time, but again, why should we feel sympathy for him? It's what gets him his PPV numbers, and he's well aware of this.
I don't have sympathy for him either, he is what he is, and he's a not a great person...I don't admire him as such, I enjoy his boxing skills and appreciate his contributions but I don't look to him for moral guidance, hence these kinds of things (outside of what it may mean to his performance) don't really matter. Obviously there are some who it does matter, and in turn I was curious why it matters with Floyd but not others.
Especially in combat sports, most people need a heel to root against... the casual fan doesn't care about technique, or ring generalship, they want to see the "bad guy" get taken out (or what they perceive to be the bad guy).. It augments excitement of the events. And somewhere along the line, Floyd realized this and started marketing himself as a villain. It's paid off for him in spades, but as you alluded to, it's not all an act, and therein lies the dilemma for Floyd. It's like he only wants the public to think of him as a villain when it comes time to shell out for PPV dollars, but in between fights, he wants you to think of him as Floyd the humanitarian. It doesn't work like that. When you manipulate the public and generate a persona, it's going to stick with you. Throw in some domestic violence cases, a gated community that wants you out, and a host of other accusations, and you have a recipe for a truly despised individual.
not at all.... Floyd has the extended shelf life that his style has afforded him. He could be like Hopkins if he had the passion for the sport or his legacy that Nard has.
I'm more curious on what type of a person spends that much time hating on someone they don't even know. I ain't got no love for Bob Arum but I sure don't search out interviews so I can post a comment or forums making thread after thread about the guy. Waste of time.
How can you not get it? Even Floyd admits that he intentionally acts like the villain because it can sell his fights. You act like a dick don't complain that people hate on you.
I've never hated Floyd or any fighter, but I would grow frustrated in the past for not facing Mosley earlier or Cotto and Margarito. Basically Floyd never really fights the fighters we as the fans wanted him to fight. No one cares about his 0 except him and he'd have more respect if he'd had faced Margo and Cotto. I still think he has a loss or draw with Castillo, but he's become a better fighter since that blemish. And his arrogance and self proclaimed best didnt help his cause about being liked. Really who you tryin to fool Floyd? But I dont take that seriously. He gained my respect for rematching Castillo and he did beat a fading still dangerous Mosley who was the #1 welter at the time but someone of Floyds skills should of reached higher pinnacles of greatness. He has only himself to blame.
He complains about not getting his respect for the fights he wins. Not for acting like an *******. There is a difference.
