If you became a promoter, would that be your motive? Is there one you can single-out now who exemplifies that?
To put on the best fights with my fighters to ensure that people view them as bad ass mother ****ers while gaining them a fan base based off of their skill and ability to fight anyone with two hands. Its how all promoters should be, but not many ever are. What dibella is doing with sergio seems to be the closest to that....He wants him in tough fights, but no one wants to fight him; when he does get chavez or cotto expect him to fight with a lit fire inside of him. Fact is, you gotta make your fighters fight for the sport and realize NO ONE IS BIGGER THAN BOXING, its what made you....you didnt make it
Put the best in with the best and cut the "protecting their cash cow" mentality. I understand the whole concept of maximizing ones profits by allowing fighters to reach a certain level before risking their earning potential should they lose, but there comes a point where it becomes too much. I haven't been paying too much attention as of late when it comes to the whole Pac-May fiasco, but if Arum is truly keeping Pac away from PBF to protect future cash flow then that's absurd. I'm not completely sold on this scenario because at the end of the day, PBF lost his urge, put up roadblocks, no negotiations took place, etc. And this whole thing where GBP and Top rank refuse to put their fighters up against each other is ridiculous. They act as if they're bigger than the sport itself.
Personally i think their responsibilities should be to look out for their fighters and their business and partners. Unfortunately they seem to run the sport and have undue influence over the process and system. I wish there were someone around to look out for the best interest of the sport in general and not just their own interests. Between the promoters and the abc orgs, the integrity of the sport is compromised to the point of almost being non existent.
