but, all the fighters Rios fought had a real chance of beating him. Ward's other win this year against Abraham is not that impressive.....Abraham last 4 fights before Ward was 2 bad performances against Dirrell and Froch, win over a nobody and a shot fighter. This content is protected
Antillon was 2-2 before facing Rios and Murray had just been stopped by Mitchell. Both of those guys were also favorable stye match-ups for Rios. Even the Acosta win looks less impressive given his subsequent struggle.
2 loses by antillon were close, didn't see his Acosta fight but I thought the Soto fight could've gone either way. ...and again all his 3 fights this year were exciting against legit fighters which should put Rios above the rest.
Excitement isn't really a criterion for fighter of the year, and other guys, Donaire and Ward being chief among them, fought arguably more legit or more dangerous opponents. What makes Rios' year any better than Arce's by your standards?
Wladimir beat one overrated, mediocre boxer by decision. Vitali defeated two better fighters than Diva Haye: 1) an undefeated former Olympic Gold medalist by KO 1 2) an underrated 44-1 two division world champion by TKO 10. Neither had ever been stopped before.
Canelo Ryan Rhodes TKO 12, Kermit "The Assasin" Cintron TKO 5, Mathew "Magic" Hatton UD 12, Alfonso Gomez TKO6... :hey:yep
Donaire. A win over a top 10 P4P fighter in utterly brutal fashion and then a wide win over the top man in his division moving up.
Wladimir / Vitali No one really stood out in back to back performances this year so for me it goes to the most dominant champions in boxing
