Spectacular. Very thought provoking. Tragedies in boxing can't be uncommon enough. Every time a boxer steps in the ring, they take a chance with their life. For that they deserve the utmost respect. At no point have you seen me question a boxer's courage or fortitude. All this I say with complete sincerity.

    Moving on....

Those stoppages don't need any more description from me, its all there for anyone to see. They were terrible stoppages, regardless of the referee's intention. As I said, the clip does not show all of Calzaghe's stoppages, and its evident that the clip was designed to ridicule Calzaghe, or else they all would have likely been included. However, the one's that were shown speak for themselves. Those fighters were not hurt. (If the refs were interested in strictly protecting the fighters from harm, why allow Calzaghe to blatantly hold one by the head and simultaneously land repeated uppercuts to his chops?)

As for the personal barbs...ouch...I'll try to see it through though....... stiff upper lip and all that......

I'm no authority on Calzaghe, never claimed to be. One doesn't need to be an authority to see what is easy to see for someone not blinded by affection, or nationalism. He was a gifted fighter, but his resume was underwhelming. Certainly not the supreme operator and top level ATG his ardent fans would like you to believe. I'll leave it at that.

The rest of the barbs will go unanswered because, quite frankly, it is fairly obvious that you are someone's alternate account, and I'll wait to see if you have the balls to reveal yourself before I'll enter into an actual exchange with you.

On a final note, ask yourself one question......why does every single point that draws Calzaghe's record into question on every single thread involving him need to be anwered with a series of excuses? What necessitates that?

Calzaghe was superior to Ward. Ward appears to have refused to have allowed Bute to fight in his own personal tournament. Ward was the only fighter who did not have to travel to another country to fight! Bute is too fast, powerful for Ward.................Ward knows it too..............Bute is the best 168 lb. fighter in the world today.............Ward has his own personal tournament with his own rules, does not prove anything..........except he is biased against Bute..........

  8. Ward is a good fighter but he's no Zaggers. His face would be like Roy Jones' after the fight - sliced, bloodied, with a look of confused resignation.:scaredas::deal

Firstly, allow me to apologize for the personal insults. There far more deserving recipients of it on here than you. I'm just sick to my teeth of all the crap Calzaghe gets on here and you just caught the brunt of it. I spend a lot of time on here and it would nice if I could actually enjoy myself once in a while instead of sitting here with my blood boiling and my chest tightening up every time I log in.

Secondly, I'm not suggesting for one minute that the referees were trying to prevent a ring tragedy from occurring by stopping those fights when they did or implying that they were in any serious danger of getting hurt or knocked cold. I'm just trying to explain what the climate was like over here at the time and the impact the tragedies had on British boxing and why British referees were/are too ****ing trigger happy to step in sometimes. People complain about fights being stopped too early over here and I'm just explaining why that is. I probably should've made that clearer in original post. In fact, that post really should've been two separate posts. I'm not saying I agree with some of the ridiculous stoppages we get over here (including some in that video) but that's just the way it has been over here for a while.

No you still don't get it. The video is a piece of propaganda no ifs or buts. If you'd actually seen all those fights I wouldn't have to explain that to you. It's not the fact that he hasn't included any of Calzaghe's other stoppage victories in it, it's the parts he's deliberately excluded from the fights in that video that make it so. And no, many of the ones that were shown most definitely do not speak for themselves or show the full story, and if you want to prove that to you I will.

Now don't get me wrong, some of them were definitely premature and I'm not going to claim otherwise. And it was a couple more than I remember it being too. However, I'd say at least half of them give or take one or two in either direction were justified (I'll have a proper look through them tomorrow).

You have to take into consideration that quite a few of them were fights from very early in his career against the usual stiffs and tomato cans prospects are fed on the way up during learning fights. They absolutely had no chance of winning and it was pointless letting the fights continue if they weren't putting up any resistance.

You also have to take into consideration that Calzaghe was punching much, much harder back then and many British referees will jump in if the opponent's taking too many hard shots and not throwing back or looking like they want out of there. In fact, quite a few of his opponents have said that even some the softer looking slap punches are harder than the appear to be from the outside, hence why not one single opponent of his was able to walk through them even when his hands were shot to **** in his mid-late career).

Like I said you're in virtually every Calzaghe thread and although I think you can be fair at times, and you seem like a pretty decent sort of a chap and not some rabid hater, you definitely veer towards the negative about him more often than not.

Yes, he was a very gifted fighter. In fact, the boxing Gods were extremely kind to him with the gifts they bestowed upon him. He pretty much had everything (including power before his metacarpals turned into dried out twigs). I agree his resume was underwhelming, especially for a man of his considerable talents but I think he gets way too much blame for that. I don't have the time nor the patience to go into that now but I might start a thread about it at a later date.

Sorry, you're barking up the wrong tree with that one. I'm not an alt . I've been around here for years and had other accounts in the past but my post count has always been pretty low due to the fact that I think the place is full of ****s and I'd rather not waste my time arguing with them.

Because many of the criticisms on here are based on falsehoods that have been created by a bunch of extremely spiteful and deeply obsessed hater weirdos. Genuine criticisms I have no problem with. However, I know for a fact that there are many lies and falsehoods circulating about him on here and sadly people (many of whom are American and don't know the finer details like myself) blindly lap them up without bothering to take the time to research whether they're true or not.

Off to bed now. Back to answer the other guy's points at a later date. The ****** with the cartoon character in his avy can go **** in the snow. I don't do haters, I let the dine on their misery alone

I don't think beating Ward is the question that needs to be asked. The question I have is would Calzaghe fight Ward? Uh....have you seen Calzaghe Resume?

Awww, don't cry little lady. :|:|

Your whole post amounts to, "you guys don't know anything cause you're not from Britain and nothing exists such as the internet where you can see most of Calzaghe's fights, and if you could see all of his fights, there's no way you would come to the conclusion that 85-90% of Calzaghe's career was protected @ home w/ less than top competition and littered with early stoppages". But I'll just take your word and assume Calzaghe was as great as prime Roy Jones and was knocking out people left and right.

That video was to show that a 70% KO ratio means nothing when you're essentially just volume punching cause you know the referee is going to stop it. It was a formula. I can't blame Calzaghe, he knew it would work, so he kept at it.

lmao, you're hilarious. No one has any HATE for Calzaghe, well, maybe some, but I sure don't. I just see him for what he his, and what he isn't. Apparently he's your GOD, since you're apparently the one "sitting here with my blood boiling and my chest tightening up every time I log in".

That's pathetic, and you're the type of person that can't debate because you are completely emotionally invested in this boxer. That's a female trait.

Unfortunately, many of Wards stoppages are due to cuts, and we can all guess why. Now when Ward has stopped use his head and instead box like a champ should, I believe his stoppage percentage will fall further.

Calzaghe carried little power, though he was able to drop some of his opponents. Ward seems to carry even less, but it hardly matters. Calzaghe and Ward both have displayed the ability to shut the opponent down. Ward counters them when ever they try to do anything, and Calzaghe just ***** slapped them into confusement.

Joe found ways to beat everyone he met, sadly for Ward (a terrfic fighter) would meet the same fate.
