Pretty much none and i like Cotto. Think the reality is that Cotto is a very small light middle, where Martinez is by now a very solid middleweight that can walk around in the 180s. Add to that Martinez seems to be taller, faster, more power, more reach. I give Cotto more chance vs Mayweather and thats not because Martinez is better but just because stylewise and physical attributes Cotto matchesup horrificly with Martinez. Cotto would be getting hit with left hands that travel about as fast as Pacs punches but with a LOT more mass behind it.
Cotto gets knocked out late after winning maybe one round. As far as I'm concerned Dzinziruk is better at the weight than Cotto and look what happened to him.
Agree. Too much weight for Cotto. I would even keep him away from Chavez Jr. Because of size and styles Floyd Jr would be a much better fight
Yeah, I do. I've rated Martinez highly on this forum for a long, long time, before he was even close to being mentioned as a potential world champion. I think he's a very silky, smooth boxer with great physical attributes. However, can he be beat? Absolutely. Cotto would be lacking a few things but Martinez's main strength from an offensive point of view is his handspeed which Cotto would neutralize, rather easily, with his excellent jab. That'd be the key in the fight, I think. If Cotto was pumping out his jab non-stop, I think he'd win the fight. As much as I like Martinez, I don't really rate him. He's a good fighter but he gets his far too often, isn't capable of fighting a hard 12 rounds and he can't fight on the inside. If Cotto could establish his jab, which he would do, and he was able to work on the inside, I think he beats Martinez something like 7-5 or 8-4. One advantage Martinez has is his size, though I'm not sure how much of an advantage that is. I think he could make 154lbs with few problems, so how significant is the fact he's a middleweight? I think Cotto has been underestimated because of his defeats. Martinez has been overrated because of the nature of his victories. A fight between the two would prove those two opinions to be right, I think.
The only place where I see Cotto being better than Martinez is on the inside, (although it may be that I just haven't seen enough Martinez fights to see how he does on the inside) but Cotto doesn't really utilize his inside game that much anymore. So it's hard to imagine any way it would go except Martinez slowly picking him apart at range and then moving out quickly.
Not wrong there. Martinez is 3 inches bigger, has 8 inches more reach. Not quite as much as what Duran gave up to Hearns, but that's quite a big disparity in height and reach. And then you have to factor in Martinez could weigh close to 170 in the ring. Mayweather weighs low 150's and only has a 1 inch height and 5 inch reach advantage. Floyd definately is the safer fight.
If Cotto gets the same demands that Manny is asking for then he def. stands a chance If Cotto stays focus and hungry like it seems he will put a good fight if its at 154 and under, nothing higher than that in weight.
We talking about the same Martinez that got troubled by some unknown Englishman last time around? If so then yeah I give Cotto a chance.
