I cant understand how overrated Calzaghe truly is on this site, I think he's a good fighter, but certainly not ATG great. The fact that he fought practical nobodies for almost 10 years should hurt his legacy more than anything, it's easy to go 40 something and 0, when your beat most guys that aren't good enough to even be your sparring partner, he's a notch ahead of Valuev IMO, who also went 40 something and 0 before being defeated last year.

Nice pic of Fatass Goathearding Peter hitting Wlad behind the head. It's like Toney said send Peter back to his goats.

He was just giving that *** Wlad one for the rode, nothing wrong with that, especially when your oppenent is excessively clinching you all night and was never giving a warning or a point taken away, it was exciting fight none the less.:yep

No doubt it will be a tough fight for both fighters, but Calzaghe is 35 years old and isn't the fastest man in the world now. I think he will win this fight by close Decision though.

i give the edge to joe but it's going to be a lot closer fight than most people think... if anyone's knocking anyone out, it's hopkins KO'ing calzaghe... hopkins hasn't been on the canvas in over a decade... i'm not saying that there is even a remote possibility that he does this, but then again no one was saying he was going to KO tito or de la hoya either

as previous posters have stated, i would have this fight at pk'em or maybe b-hop as a 3 to 2 dog... i'm gonna guess you can find b-hop at better than that, maybe even close to 2 to 1. the value bet is on bernard

Yep, all that is 100% accurate. There was a show on TV tonight in England with those twats Barry McGuigan and Duke McKenzie bigging him up again, it's truly sickening that ex-boxers take payoffs to talk such bull****.

I think Calzaghes a good fighter dont get me wrong, but his resume proves otherwise, in terms of considering him a great. If he beats Hopkins, that will help, but 10 years of weak competition can never be erased, just like the image of Jones being layed with one punch from Tarver.

Weak comp? What are you talking about? The fact is this: Calzaghe has been trying to get a big fight with an American "superstar" for years and nobody wanted to fight him. Calzaghe is very very good. I know an older guy who was a good boxer himself about 50 years ago and he said PBF and Calzaghe are two of the best fighters he has seen in decades. It actually meant a lot since this guy never praises anybody unless he really means it.

Kessler was the toughest fight of Joe's career. Dawson could perhaps be equally tough. Bernard doesn't have the power to bother Joe.

The old dude is on point.

Floyd said himself that Calzaghe is one of the best he's ever seen. I wish I could find the quote again so I could post his exact words. The sad thing is, Mayweather Jr -- the man considered by so many to be the absolute P4P king, or even the best fighter the world has ever seen -- doesn't have a problem giving Joe his props, yet some idiotic boxing "fans" on ESB are not smart enough to recognise Joe's incredible skills and acknowledge the fact that he is one amazing boxer. It's pretty sickening, to be honest. No, it's extremely sickening.

Get a clue, people. Recognise a true great while he's still here. Joe Calzaghe is a rarity.

To say "they are light punches" is incorrect. Joe throws big bunches of shots. Let's suggest there are 10 all together, well maybe 6 of those will be lighter shots, and the other 4 are thrown with power. It's a smart way of fighting. It keeps the opponent confused, and it allows Joe to overwhelm his opposition with pure speed.

    It looks like this:

    blam-blam-blam-BLAM-blam-blam-BLAM-BLAM-blam-blam-BLAM!

    Geddit? ;)

I personally agree that strategic and personal confrontations like Hopkins-Taylor are a lil bit beyond Calzaghe's experience and Bernard has some reason in sayin that this will be in a whole different level for him and concerning his last fight with Kessler in Wales. Joe is a world class performer, make no mistakes about it, but he'll have to adjust his style to Hopkins'... He has certainly the tools to come out as a clear winner ( deceptive handspeed, very mobile, is a pesky puncher, has above average work rate and all) but it's easier said than done - I bet my underwear he won't come slapping his way through like against Manfredo, so if he's going to hesitate a bit to think he's way in, I certainly don't take for granted that he has the superior timing and is the better technician of the two. Actually, it is a great boxing mistake to think that your opponent's so-called disadvantages are gonna work for you - much of Hopkins' success is due to his monk-like devotion to fitness, clean living and hard training and that has held Father Time for him... Calzaghe is no spring chicken anymore either, so I guess they'll come out in sound condition in April to give their best for 36 minutes of a slow-paced and highly tactical fight.

exactly, kessler would beat hopkins. Hopkins is no where near his toughest test. Think this could be over by 9 or 10 rounds, lets just hope it isn't another judge mugging like Lewis - holyfield 1 if it goes to 12

Hopkins thowing 10 punches a round?

Kessler throwing 100 shots a round?

Calzaghe KO'ing someone with one of the best chins P4P in current boxing?

I think you should think before you post, as Bernard threw almost 700 punches last time out against Winky and Kessler only threw around 500 against Calzaghe... Joe's hands a brittle too, he doesn't sit on his punches anymore, so a stoppage is out of the question :nut
