    Hey!

I have studied how many coaches want you to launch the left hook with the palm down. But when I have searched on this topic, there are many coaches who just say this, but as soon as they are about to hit the bag, then your palm facing your face and not on the floor.

I want to know what is correct!

i think palms down is technically correct, but I dont think it's a big deal either way tbh. This would be a better question to ask on the classic forum.

That's the exacly the video I have studied but look closer at the fighter and you'll see that he isn't always doing the "palm to the floor" thing :S

I think if you have the palm facing down rather than facing your face when you throw it, there is less chance of that punch slapping the opponent. Palm down and you hit much cleaner much more often. That being said if you nail someone with you palm facing yourself, clean on the jawline, chin, cheek, temple etc. it seems to do much more ****ing damage.

I think it has more to dow ith that twist of the mvoement (turning over your punches) which makes your punches snappier/ sharper. You should always do it with your straight punches.

Inside the elbow it is palm down ! Outside the elbow the the thumb is up and palm facing you.

palm down turning it over will get a little more power into it, palm facing your face makes it a little speedier I was taught palm facing down i've seen RJJ through like 6 in a row left hooks with the palm facing your face, ODLH also said something like keeping the fist open then closing it on impact also makes it faster.

You look at some of the big left hookers of recent times like your Trinidads, de la Hoya and Jones, they still get that snap when they've got the palm facing their face. I don't think the positioning of the hand is quite as important and the form of your body when throwing the punch, twisting the hips and front foot for example are the most important aspect.

One thing I do notice when I throw a punch palm facing down is it seems to be more effective as a short punch than the palm facing the face. Much more effective on the inside if you will.

I was thinking that too almost everytime ive seen a long looping left hook thrown it was palm facing the face I guess turning your fist over might take away a little range?

    Palm down. Is correct.

    Look at PAC vs hatton.
The right hooks that ko him.

    Look at ward vs froch.
The left hooks that land on that slowmo chin.
