It's true as a far as I know...not so sure about the ringside doughnut thing...pretty sure he was found outside the hotel or in the lobby a couple of hours before the fight.
Instead of a doughnut I heard it was a pretzel. Garcia phoned his wife for permission though before accepting the fight. She was against the idea in order to protect his ranking but he insisted because they needed the money for christmas. She gave-in and he came home with the title. It's a pretty good story.
Isidro Garcia's first defense was against Fernando Montiel, who was getting his first shot at a world title. Montiel KO'd Garcia in round 7. Garcia may have been the Flyweight Jim Braddock.
