First off, I want to apologize to those that find the "Ward vs Bute" threads more than abundent. Unfotunately the web is still full of this as there are many fans that want to see this fight. The video I posted is just 2 days old and, to me, seems interesting. Of course, hearing this all the time makes you less eager to watch that particular fight, as we have an example in the last couple of years.
I found interesting that the idea that Bute doesn't deserve to fight Ward is still hot and used by Ward's entourage.

I want to ask you all a favor: for this thread forget that you are a boxing fan. Just use your pure logic.
Do you think that Gossen uses logical arguments and do you find his expinations satisfactory?

In reaching you conclusions please see this other two media reports:

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO_H29ikNzs[/ame]

starting 0:54 (March 2011) - Ward says he want to fight Bute

and an excerpt from an article dated May 2011 - The Scene

"Ward: After the tournament I want to face Lucian Bute. Nobody else comes to mind. However, I do not intend to underestimate any opponent, and first I need to focus on winning the tournament. If I win the tournament and beat Bute, it would be everything I could achieve [at this weight]. Therefore, in the future I do not intend to move up. I want to win titles and face the best. The tournament, organized by Showtime, gave me the opportunity to fight the best fighters in my category, and after its completion there won't be anything for me at this weight."

    Are this statements contradictory?

I would love to see opinions of people that aren't fans of either Ward or Bute but "the usuals" are more than welcome.

That's a sudden change of mind. From "The Super 6 winner needs to fight Bute" and "It's doing a good job right now" to "Bute needs to prove himself in order to fight me". That's ok mister Goosen , keep doing ya thing , fighting Tony Dirrel or Bernard in Oakland in front of that massive crowd of yours. Thank you Dan Goosen and California Jesus for introducing the notion of worthyness in the sport of boxing.

Oh, interesting thing that Gossen said:

Gossen: His [Bute's] promoter has been a little abusive towards Andre and myself talking abut 60,000 in Canada. You know, that's not the challenge. The challenge is to go out there and fight the Froch'es and Kessler's...
Elie: So why don't you tell him: "OK, put a big screen and take you 16,000 and pack in but let's have the fight in Vegas"?
Gossen: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean... well... see... it's not even a matter of that. You got to earn it. OK? You wanna talk? You wanna yack? Go out there and earn it! Do what Andre Ward has done; a quarter of what he's done.....

    Conclusion no. 1: Bute's team approached Ward's team with a real offer;
Conclusion no. 2: Ward's team is ducking Bute.

I really wanted to just sit on the fence on this and watch but I can not hide what it's obvious.

But they wanted it just a few months ago. They said it's an obvious choice for them. What made them change their mind?
And what you said has a definiton here. It's called ducking. Don't be affraid to use that word in this case :). It's clear as daylight.

Goosen is talking about 16000 people not 60000. Edit your post

Too early to start accusing them of this. Let things develop a little bit more.

This sounds like a translation from English to another language (French) back to English, and something got lost in translation somewhere. He said by winning S6 and beating Bute, he will have accomplished everything he wanted and there won't be anything left for him at super middle, but in the same statement, he said he doesn't want to move up in weight, he wants to continue defending the titles. Ward is more articulate than this.

As for this whole situation, in my view (and I've said this before), I'm all on board with insisting that Bute fight a S6 standout (Froch, Kessler, Dirrell) before fighting Ward. Think about how few boxing insiders take Bute seriously right now because his greatest opponent to date was Glen Johnson, who is 1-2 at Super-middle and was decisively beaten by Froch. I know it's not Bute's fault for not being invited to S6, but it's clearly put a dent in his ability to build a great resume and prove himself to be a peer to Ward.

Ward has more or less hinted that Bute is the final stop at super middle. As the only remaining top super-middle, it's THE legacy-defining fight at the weight. If Bute's going to be the cherry on top, the opponent to put either himself or Ward over as one of the best accomplished super middles in its short history, he MUST silence the critics who question whether he's only being talked about because he wasn't eliminated in the S6 tournament. In order to do that, he has to show that he could also have advanced in the tournament if he were invited. In order to do that, he has to show himself as the "real" finalist by beating, preferably, Froch.

IMO, if he does that and Ward still avoids him, then we'll talk. But I find it hard to believe that there would be any degree of *fear* that Ward has of Bute. Bute is very, very good, but he doesn't come across as a world-destroying monster. Some guys make it sound as though if Bute had been invited to S6, Ward would have withdrawn, lol.

I agree with the poster who said, "let it play out". Bute fans should want Bute to fight Froch first too. Even if he were to beat Ward, Bute would still need a world-class resume to establish himself at an ATG SMW, and there's more interest and money with Kessler->Froch->Ward than an anticlimactic Ward->Froch->Kessler. That would be like showing Rocky vs. Spider Rico AFTER he fought Apollo.

Run the table, clean up the loose ends at the weight, and be the last two standing - as unquestioned equals. THAT'S how you build a super-fight. THAT'S how you bring in the casual fans. THAT'S how you make a PPV-worthy event.

Any time promoters say they don't want a fight or a guy "is not worthy" they're just angling for leverage in negotiations. If they can convince the public that Bute is not a worthy opponent then they will be able to force the Romanian/Canadian team to make concessions to get the fight made.
