Another Valero thread. He will always be overrated because of his record. Marquez win, probably via late TKO, Valero may have success early...but once Marquez gets the timing, it's over.
Go watch Valero fights and sparring videos so you get an idea of how good this guy was. I seriously doubt this would have been a lopsided W for Marquez.
I've watched his fights (and sparring means not a great deal, especially when one boxer is going 100%, and the other isn't). The only reason people believe he was as good as he is made out is because of his record. Who did he actually beat apart from DeMarco (who was arguably more cruder than himself) when did he face someone at the standard of Marquez? There is even an argument that Rios could stand up to Valero's shots and take him places he hasn't been before. Nevermind Marquez. Like I said, overrated because of his cowardly actions.
I say he doesnt get the credit because of what happened outside the ring. We never got the chance to see him against better opposition to truly measure his skills. To me the Demarco fight showed alot and I think he would have went on to beat bradley which iirc that would have been his next fight. Rios would have gotten the Demarco treatment...he doesnt mesh well with movers and Valero showed he could adapt and box well in a slick way. I guess it really doesnt matter tho...weather he could have or wouldnt have will alway be nothing more than speculation. Il have to disagree on the sparring videos too...have you ever done any sparring?
We'll never know who would have won but I do know Valero's competition would prefer the "other" fights if available. My gut feeling with this is Valero by KO in the first 8 rounds, KO by Marquez after the 8th round.
He was beginning to become overrated due to his record anyway before he topped himself. He died, and all of a sudden he would have knocked everyone out who he stepped in the ring with, including Welters (yes, I've heard people say this since his demise). He impressed me in the DeMarco bout, but like I said, DeMarco is nothing special, he is very crude, and can be outboxed. Valero moved well in that bout, but he was far from a mover, up against someone like Marquez...he would have come unstuck. Yes I boxed from 7 years old until I was about 18. From the sparring videos I seen of Valero, he was going all out...whilst his opponents were not. He looked and was the crazy type to do that, take a sparring session too seriously by trying to deal as much pain as he possibly could to his opponent.
I see what you're saying, but I still think he would have been force to be reckon with @ 135 and 140. I dont overrate him and I dont underrate him,but I think its safe to say he was better than most current lighweights and Jr welterweights. Glad to know Im talking to somebody who has actually laced em up. Im of the opinion that you dont really know until you've been in there.
We'll never know how good he could have been, I could have been totally accurate, or I could have been a mile off...and he proves me completely wrong. Just never saw the special in him like many did. :good
He fights much like the older version of Pac, not the current day one. I should have worded that clearer.
how do u guys think valero would have done against pacquiao? valero was too small to beat marquez. he didnt have the punching of a 145 lbs pacquiao. just my opinion though.
