And wasnt he a failed boxing promoter at one time?

I cant knock the guy for what his achieved with the UFC and I agree that boxing has had many occurences where the best dont fight each other but this isnt a recent thing.

Minus the odd fight GBP and TR seem to put their fighters in 60-40 fights and then do in house fights. Frank puts his fighters in 90-10 fights and then struggles to put his best fighters together or even get enough of a roster in each division.

When will we see DeGale Groves 2 and Cleverly Bellew 2.

Promoters in boxing need much bigger rosters.

The UFC have on many occassions not had some of the best talent in the world but the fighters still fought each other. Same with SF, Dream and Pride and they still fought each other while doing cross promotions for even bigger fights.

The culture is different in MMA. Even the journeymen come to fight and can cause good upsets. In boxing the journeymen are an embarassment yet we say how important and brilliant they are.

Think he was just a personal trainer. I may be wrong.

I would say you were far more unlikely to see the amount of joke fights we get today. Fighters fought more regularly in previous eras. We've waited what, six months for Clev to fight again? And he gets who?!?

  4. Promotional conflicts were never such an issue as they are now, as long as everyone was happy with their lot the fight generally happened.

Not like these days ''I don't want so and so making money off me'' or ''he pays too much to his promoter'' or ''I think he's getting too much''.

When the first Leonard vs Duran fight was signed all Duran asked for was a minimum $1.5m guarantee plus extras, and a guarantee of a 50-50 split in a subsequent rematch - the fight was made in days.

In the space of three years, in and around the welterweight division, Benitez, Leonard, Duran all fought each other, and Hearns fought two of them also.

We've not seen Khan vs Bradley, Mayweather vs Pacquiao or Gamboa vs Lopez, and Haye vs Klitschko took about ten years to sign. Madness.

Well thats not exactly true. There wasnt much cross promotion. When Fedor was the #1 fighter in the world Dana White refused to book him v any of his fighters as Fedor wouldnt commit to signing with the UFC.

He could of made a cross promotion fight but wouldnt and i dont really blame him as its still a business.

Eddie might be offering less money, but the exposure of being on a channel watched by more then one man and his dog would surely be worth it

  8. I'd have thought Allegedly would jump at the chance to have one less headache, in terms of paying Saunders.

Then again, they might all be on his case asking to fight on Matchroom cards in order to earn a few quid.

The trouble is as fans we have a tough choice. I've never successfully boycotted a fight because curiosity gets the better of me. I'd love to say that i won't watch fights in which bull**** titles are used to make a poor match up seem important, I won't watch fights that include the opponent Ivan NeverBeenStoppedivic, I won't put my precious money in the back of corrupt sanctioning bodies etc.

But at the end of the day, the big fish(eyes) rule the pond. I'm a fight fan, I want to see great fights, but i'll settle for a mediocre fight rather than Coronation street. They have us by the nuts and they know it. The next generation is a different story though as they are growing up on UFC

Thats a good point. Promoters like ****** especially will have his fighters going as long as possible without fighting live opponents.

I agree seeing the best fight the best is what everyone wants and we're not seeing often enough but it's a bit harsh to lay the blame solely at VVarren's door. No big promoter seems committed to delivering 50-50 fights at the minute.

Sky/ Matchroom... Form a UFC type overseeing which listens to the fans. They could fron the money for star only shows. Let the other promoters build guys up but when they feature on big fights put them all on the same card and have blockbuster events like the UFC does. Honest the sport is crying out for something fresh you have to be stupid to not to see it.

The only people who can do it are matchroom and sky - they are the only ones who seem to actually listen to the fans. I wish they would listen to my idea.

Clev - Karpency. it's a fight, deal with it. Broner's mandatory, were off to lightweight. That was yesterdays news pumpkin. Guzman. Big boy, will never see the numbers 135 again unless it's on his lottery ticket. Ormond's out, Staggering disappointment. Shabba Ranks is in. It's made for the Caribbean fans on a Tuesday.

    Adios Big Boy.

Didn't M1 want full co-promotion? Meaning other fighters they represent (who generally aren't very good) would be on the card. The also demanded an exorbitant amount of money, I believe they asked for a 50/50 split of the entire PPV, it meant the whole idea of signing Fedor wasn't feasible without essentially losing money.

if any of you keyboard cowards do your homework you will find the cleverly fight is very evenly matched. karpency is not to be taken lightly. true he has a small title, but he earned his. cleverly won his title by default, he never fought a champion and beat him. karpency had the balls to go to germany and noooobody wins in germany unless by KO. for what it's worth karpency would probably beat bellew.
