No. Unless he was to quit boxing today and train for a couple years minimum before he fought. But still, I think he'd be at a disadvantage to those who can throw and fight on the ground.
You're going to think I'm picking on you, but I'm not. But don't you think his lack of grappling or using his feet would be a negative? You can practice kicking or grappling while training, but that's controlled, and not the same as doing it in a fight. A fight where the other guys probably has YEARS of that kind of training.
I'm not saying he would be successful right away, but if he trained properly for a few years, I could see him having some success there. It wouldn't happen right away though.
Floyd wouldn't be willing to get messed up on the ground. Why would a multimillionaire want to do this?
I agree with you. I doubt he'd be a top guy at whatever weight he would fight at, but I'm sure he would have some success beating no hopers or has beens.
Maybe, but he needs a lot of training. a lot of moves that arent allowed in boxing can be used in MMA. And holding and hugging is allowed.
if he trains and learns wrestling, he could have limited success....but no more than that same goes for mma fighters, if they focus on boxing training, they could have some limited success...and thats it
Well Chuck Liddel is extremely popular in UFC and he doesn't go to the ground or kick, so basically he's just a really crappy excuse for a boxer in UFC. So Floyd being an amazing boxer could work, except for that he's never going to do it. There's not enough money in it and Floyd only suggested it because his friend/billionaire Mark Cuban owns a failing MMA league.
Liddell's striking is no where near the league of Floyd Mayweather, but Liddell also has excellent take-down defense and a ground game that can work in a pinch when he is taken down. Floyd doesn't have that. If Mayweather trained extensively and learned a ground game, he could actually be quite successful. Possibly.
