The dude is 50+ pounds down from his Solis fight...every time out. He was a fat HW, now he is in very fit shape. I encourage anybody who is in the Auckland area to go check out this fight on the 21st. You won't be coming back here telling me this guy is too fat for TV? That **** is lame anyways. Welliver is fit for TV...especially against a power puncher. He's got 350 HW rounds without going down. Seth Mitchell vs Welliver is must see TV. David Tua vs Welliver. Wladimir vs Welliver as well...after at least 1 big win but as a late replacement that would be a hell of a fight, right now. Let's see some of these power punchers try to do what nobody has been able to do for a decade....knock Welliver down. If promoters with power punchers cannot sell a fight against Welliver, they need a new job. People need to quit using the fat guy crap when a dude is 6-3 230 pounds. That's not fat, that's ready to beat some arse shape.
Mate..ill give you credit, you are quite a nuthugger (if indeed your not the polarbear himself)..it's not hard to fight decent opponents mate,Your talking Tua,Barrett,Wladimir etc etc..Mate the fight game is about MONEY,PROMOTION ETC,Welliver is UNKNOWN!!! the fights arnt going to come to him mate sorry to tell you.he hasnt fought on MainEvent,Sky,or even FoxSports cards lol.. and no the ****ing bogus #6 ranking because he defends his multiple region titles against guys like Galen Brown is not gonna get him the bigger fights. Why oh why can't Welliver fight a Meehan,Leapai,Cameron, christ even Ohkelo Peter,Bob Mirovic,Col Wilson,Kirby,Edwards etc are step ups in opposition !
Here, here If he could step up in opposition, even locally,I mean moyoyo for fuk sake, who held leapai for grim death the whole fight.Ok another points decision, how does that further his career.I mean theres padding then theres WTF!
Ohkello Peter was damn near the opponent instead of Mensah. Some issues with travel or something came up. Meehan vs Welliver in Figi last year fell through when Meehan backed out. Welliver accepted an offer for the Tua Backyard Brawl, they never called back. Welliver tried like hell to face Monte Barrett on the Holy/Williams undercard and Monte declined. Monte was also offered 30 grand to take this fight instead of Mensah, declined again. I'm sorry but Big Bob and Wislon are not tickets to praise either. Another fight that fell off was Donnell Holmes, but Bowie just took him down. Oliver Mccall was also supposed to fight Welliver, wound up rejecting him and took another offer, they wouldn't even let him fight the match. In a local Spokane grudge match, Skyler Anderson 15-1 won't face Welliver for a big local fight. Rahman is not interested in earning that #1 and won't take a fight. Kirby is the only guy I would have faith in taking the match. He's a warrior and a risk taker but his record is pretty ****, and he has no rankings to speak of. Edwards has no record really at all. In 2012, expect to see Welliver in some mega matches. The WBC is either going to do a World Cup HW tournament, of which Welliver would be the down under representative, or they are going to mandate him an eliminator around May. Jonothon banks ve Chauncy Welliver is the most likely match up for May. China the most likely location. :bbb
That's outright bull****. Kevin Johnson called out Welliver to fight on that card, and Welliver vanished. Welliver only cherry picks old shot fighters and Z-level opposition. Welliver vs Banks a mega match? :rofl:nut GTFO!
I saw the Kevin Johnson comments in the press...after the damn show was over. he said that Chauncy chose to swim to New Zealand rather than fight him. That was bullocks. Chauncy never got asked to face him and many fights fell out or were rearranged on that card. A lot of people were pissed about that card and how it came off. I haven't heard Kevin saying anything of the sort before a card. All I've heard him talking about was having nobody willing to promote him anymore. Can't say I blame them really. Of every fight there could be made with Chauncy, this is probably the biggest stinker of them all. I'd much rather see Leapai vs Chauncy than KJ running around like a Harlem Globetrotter for 36 minutes.
Second hand info from someone who spoke to chauncy, card's probably being pushed out another week, something to do with his manager not being happy. Wouldn't surprise me if he's pissed about the shithouse promotion, even the local pro/ams are better advertised that this. The guy involved usually does so much better. Respect to chauncy for coming out and putting on a fight for the kiwi's, but he should really forget about us, does his career no favors. He can't be making any money doing this, but thats the life of a pro fighter, fighting when and where he can. Honestly wouldn't surprise me if daniel tai walks into the ring for the 4th time though. These NZ fight cards are always a last minute disaster.
I hope that is not the case. I know Chauncy has been looking forward to getting back in action in New Zealand. As far as the promotion goes, I don't think anybody was ever expecting a massive show after Monte Barrett turned down the fight. I doubt that Welliver or Jankelson is really unhappy with the promotion. Something else would have to be going on to rile them up. Like Mensah not being available or some ****. IMO, I don't care who he fights this time out. Take out Afa Tutapu or Joey Wilson. Daniel Tai 4 would be fine with me too, as Tai would get ktfo this time like he should have been last time. You can never get enough of beating the hell out of a guy who tried to neuter you in the ring before. I found a new Welliver article today....Odlanier Solis, step up Fat Boy. Chauncy Welliver wants to kick your Cuban doors down and get his revenge! :bbb http://8countnews.com/news/125/ARTICLE/5043/2012-01-11.html#.Tw0jqy-3440.facebook
