truthfully I haven't seen those number yet but I have seen Mosley, Marquez and De La Hoya all better than Manny's numbers.
The second highest grossing non-heavyweight pay-per-view event of all time? I really don't think you know at all what you're typing about. :huh
bad wording. Pac JMM 1.4 mill Floyd Ortiz 1.2 mill. Just making the point that manny has passed him up with this last one. and there's the case that he wins on pure volume too. we can make another thread for that and let this one die.
He has one out of how many, not enough. This is the very reason Bob Arum doesn't want the fight he is not in the drivers seat. If he was he would have Mayweather come in the ring at 130 LBS on fight night for a 147LBS fight.
Boxing is very much a 'what have you done lately' sport in these types of matters and overall Pac grosses more because he fights more often. Create a new thread if you want to discuss further. Let this thread die already.
if it is going to attract the big money and as exquisite as you claim its gonna cost time and money! plus you also add more risk to the fight, which is never a good idea and HBO might not even sign off on it regardless, the mgm will make more money than this crazy idea that was only tossed into the equation at the midnight hour as a red herring. Bob does not want the fight to happen end of story. First it was may first is too soon because of the cut. then when PBF was going to jail it was we want may 5th for pacs next fight (since PBF cant take it). Next it was I do not think pbf will get licensed for may 5th when his sentence got postponed. Soon followed by; "Pac's cut wont heal we cant fight until june." Finally, it is temporary stadium (that might never get built on time and/or budget, which will probably make less money at the gate then the wold class MGM and HBO might not agree too in the first place) and oh yeah you only have to agree to a fight after you are already in jail plus it has to be 50-50 (which it should always have been but Pac was the one who said he would take less) . . . just give us a call . . . pretty simple!:deal
Taking the may 5th date ****ed Arum plans or he would have made JMM4 for may 5th and people would have accepted it "hm mexican v pac may 5th ill buy that" but now mayweather plans to fight on that date fan-"hmm PAC V JMM or mayweather may 5th? MAYWEATHER" Arum got outdone now he has no excuse for making any other fight other than the big one
I still think a fight of this magnitude should be in the MGM Grand. Not some temporary ghost stadium. Four out of five of the top 35 highest grossing boxing gates in Nevada were held at the MGM Grand. The highest, Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr on May 5, 2007 grossed $18,419,200.00. The fight sold out in three hours breaking the previous North American highest-grossing live gate record of $16,860,300.00 million in 1999 for the Lennox Lewis vs Evander Holyfield heavyweight rematch at the Thomas & Mack. Lewis - Tyson was originally scheduled for Las Vegas before the press conference brawl put a stop on that. The three other top fights held at the MGM Grand were promoted by Don King and headlined Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield II on June 28, 1997 grossed $14,277,200. Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield I on November 9, 1996 grossed $14,150,700. It was the biggest upset of the year. Tyson lost to Evander Holyfield. Peter McNeeley vs Mike Tyson on August 19, 1995 grossed $13,965,600. It was Tyson's first fight after his 4 year prison term. Most recently another fight at the MGM Grand made Nevada's largest grossing gates. Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez III held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on November 12, 2011 produced a live gate of $11,648,300 ranking 9th of all time in the state of Nevada.
Explain why Pacquiao-Margarito, and Pacquiao-Clottey live gates where less than Pacquiao-Marquez 3 fight live gate if stadium size mattered? I assume you have proof, because anyone with half a brain for marketing and knowledge about who tunes into fights understand that Mexicans are probably the number 1 or 2 group in the country that watches boxing matches and accomdating them helps facilitate this even if two non-mexicans are the main attraction. As well as the fact that prior to JMM-Pacquiao 3 more than a few *******s on here were just gushing about the reception that Pac received in Mexico. Your last point is ******ed
If the MGM is good enough for a Tyson fight, it's good enough for these cats. Mike was a bigger attraction than both Pac and Floyd.
MGM wont seem so boring with Floyd and Manny in the ring, standing opposite eachother and ready to fight, I can assure you.
