Cotto-Chavez In July If Chavez Wins Against Rubio

Cotto fights Mayweather next! This is just to show that he has options.

 

This. I'm a huge Cotto fan and would love to see him beat Daddy's Boy, but get real. He can make 147 and looks a little soft at 154. No way does he need to get in the ring with a guy who will weigh upwards of 170.

He's got a good relationship with Todd DuBoef. Dunno how well Cotto and Arum get along, but Cotto is one of the fighters who DuBoef has had an active role in developing.

I agree with you about this potential fight too. Chavez comes in the ring around at least 180lbs on fight night - he's just too big for Cotto. It'd be a serious scalp for Chavez in terms of building up his name value, as most casual fans aren't going to think too deeply about the size difference. I reckon the famous surname and a win over Cotto would go someway to establish Chavez, Jr as more of a name fighter.

I'd still rather see Chavez/Alvarez than Mayweather/Alvarez and Cotto/Chavez though.

I just don't think this is a good move for Cotto. Chavez has settled in the middleweight division pretty good. A few years ago I thought it was a 50/50 fight. But Chavez is bigger now and his technique has gotten better. Cotto is an overall better fighter but there's too much of a size difference now.

 

Chavez is too damn big for Cotto and he'll box Cotto, real bad match up for Miguel. No question he's the superior fighter, but he's too small. Chavez won't just chase him around like Margarito, Jr has fast hands with decent power (relative to Miguel anyways).

Alvarez is a much better fight for Cotto, and probably more money.
