Let's bring this back on topic and make it simple. Pac/Marquez. Two close fights. Pac goes on to super star status. Marguez does OK, but no where near as good. Why? Promoter. Simple as. Arum tells Pac to learn some English to make himself more marketable and I don't think Marquez can as much as say "Hello" in English. You say Martinez is at a disadvantage because he is a 38 year old Argintinian? Pac fought at lower weights and was not American so he had a bigger hurdle in front of him. Again, DiBella is a **** poor promoter. Simple as. Now he wants Martinez to call out Pac and May and PRAY for a miracle to get a payday. Now that didn't work so he'll still call out a lower weight class fighter. WTF? He is lineal MW champ of the world. Let him call out a middle weight FFS. He wouldn't go up 4 pounds to give Pavlik a rematch after Pavlik gave him a world title shot. I have no sympathy for his calling out smaller guys. Period. None.

And bull **** on no one wants to fight him. Just no big paydays want to fight him because, as I've already pointed out, he won't bring in any frigging money for the fight. He can thank DiBella for that. People need to get real on this forum and realize that there are some promoters out there that shouldn't be in the business. I know most would like to see Arum go but it will be bad for the sport when he is gone. He doesn't lie around waiting for handouts from the networks to make things happen. He actively shapes boxing, not the other way around.

Actually Marquez spoke OK english for a guy who apparently didn't speak any english at all in the JMM-Pac III promotion. GBP missed the boat there. Most of these guys would have a decent grasp of the language, they just feel more comfortable in their native tongue.

The only times I've seen him he had an interpreter. The Klitchko's realize the importance of speaking the native language so they speak several. To me it is part of the job when you are between fights or have down time to do the publicity and image mongering. If you want to be featured in another country then realize the public will want to hear directly from you, not an interpreter. Mexico has a great boxing public, but the upper tier is still dependent on the US at this point when it comes to making money. Marquez is the perfect example of someone that should be bigger here than he is.

Martinez knows he has a good style matchup for Cotto. Martinez is naturally bigger than Cotto, can match his speed and has found his power. Cotto would have a tough time with Martinez.

So many inaccuracies here. Marquez speaks English better than Pacquiao. Marquez's promoter for most of the time he was languishing in obscurity was none other than Top Rank, including after the first Pacquiao fight. Arum simply preferred Morales and had little to no interest in securing big fights for Marquez (which again should undermine your King Midas view of Bob Arum).

Pacquiao did not become a superstar until he was able to feast on the remains of a bigger name from the previous generation; he'd still likely be topping out at 400-500k PPVs if not for Oscar.

Even if you want to bring size into the question, I'd still contend that it's easier to market a fighter from the Phillippines than it is to market one from Argentina in the US. There's actually a geographic base you can work with in the former case; it's not simply a matter of "not being American" but instead one of having nowhere one can logically promote such fights. You still haven't come up with anything that would make Martinez somehow more relevant BTW.

He has been calling out the one guy with a bigger name than him in his own division far more than Pacquiao, Cotto, or Floyd.
Why am I not surprised this all comes back to Pavlik? The guy had all the leverage in the world for the Martinez fight; it's his own damn fault for having weight issues and not attempting to account for them at all in the contract. He's about as far from a victim as you can get.

You still haven't come up with one thing Top Rank or anyone else could do to make Martinez a bigger name fighter in the States than he currently is. Your entire post, starting from the apparent premise of "Let's bring this back on topic" consisted of nothing more than further obfuscation and non-responses.

    Berto? :huh

Quintana, Mosley, Margarito, Clottey, Pacquiao. Can't fight everyone. The P4P best Mayweather only fought one of those guys at WW in comparison, a much older Mosley, and he didn't fight Williams either. Margarito-Cotto was the fight fans wanted anyway, it's not as if he didn't fight Williams to fight stiffs. It's like when DLH didn't fight Forrest to fight Tito, Quartey and Whitaker, Mosley. Cotto is a warrior, ducked nobody.

The other funny thing is that some people are under the impression Macklin/Martinez being at "MSG" is that it's going to be in the actual big main arena, it's actually at the much smaller The Theatre at MSG. Dibella was bragging they had sold 2,500 tickets so far yet he is not even promoting Martinez, his promotion has centered around Mackln and Andy Lee, the 2 Irishmen and being near St. Patrick's Day.:lol:

    Stopped after this.

Martinez does not speak English, which may be one drawback in getting the mega-fight he wants. He was asked through an interpreter about the Pacquiao-intermission-Mayweather scenario and laughed at his own absurdity.

I'm outta this one. I don't have the time to disprove it all. The original concept remains the same. Martinez doesn't sell tickets. Period. I don't care he is 38 and doesn't have time to NOW build up a following in the states. That is his and his promoters problem. Period. End of.

They offered Cotto 5 million to fight Berto and they said it wasn't enough money so he went to fight Yuri Foreman

I was responding to the absurd parallel you were trying to draw on Marquez's lack of English, not Martinez's.

Well that plus you simply can't disprove any of the points I was making. The original concept consists of nothing more than repeated assertions without evidence or actual arguments.
