His first KO loss, and a heavy one. Some people never fully recover from that kind of KO, but hopefully Terry can. He'll have a suspension to wait out but I'm hoping we see him back at it before the first half of the year is out. He wasn't outclassed by Barboza and the fight was competitive up until the KO. http://www.yourmma.tv/news/details.asp/id/1849/terry-etim-next-step-ufc-142-edson-barboza.htm What about Yves Edwards? Two exciting strikers with good submissions, coming off a loss? Great gauge of where Etim's head will be at after that loss. What do you think?
He was pretty outclassed by Barboza. Although he was doing good at points, I think those leg kicks hurt him
He can come back. For me, his strategy was wrong. He was looking to land hands but taking alot of kicks and harder punches. He needed to get his whole repetoire of striking going and when he did, he had much more success. Go to the body and kick more. Use that to time your takedowns because they could have helped him. Ultimately, it was a HUGE kick but Terry can come back. Barboza admits it was for the mid section and Etim moves his hands away as if he thought the same but that created the opening. In combat, all it takes is ONE mistake!
He was losing the fight though but yeah Terry can come back. He's on of the top british fighters and probably tried to stand with Barboza for too long.
He was losing the fight strategically but not physically. He wasn't blown away by a blend of talent and skill. He needs to put his whole striking repetoire on display and blend that with his grappling. Looked good early but then was losing until the second half of the second round where he started to go to the body and throw some kicks. Early on his wrestling looked good but then it looked undecided and nervous as the shots were poorly timed. I'm the first to say when a British fighter isn't as good as presented (Hardy) but Etim has ability.
In fairness he was out classed , and being a fellow scouser i say that painfully , Barboza controlled the pace of the fight , and when that happens against a stand up fighter like him , your not gonna put a dent in him , and Terry didnt , he had to rush Barboza and make it more of a war of attrition than technique , Terry Etim is one of the best athletes in the sport , and if he had Barboza working over his normal output he would of won the fight , but he didnt , and thats because Barboza is an all round more technically skilled and seasoned striker than Terry Id love to see Etim straight back in with a relevant fight , i like Lauzon for Terry
He was being outclassed I think, not to the point where he was being embarrassed but everything Barboza did just seemed a lot more effective. Etim is in exciting fights though, he'll never be a contender but he will stay in the UFC for a while and give most guys a good fight.
Agree with this, good post. Obviously my interpretation of 'outclassed' is WAY different to some of you guys....
