Yeah, very few Thai boxers actually do kick trees regularly. They might do t once in a while to mix things up, but definitely not three times a week. They just kick a heavybag, like every other normal person would.
I don't think they do it at all. Except maybe to show off like this. I think they used to do it in Muay Boran before they had heavybags.
I have a bannana tree in my yard. IT has soft spots in it just like this tree does. There was nothing hard about this tree. This is a bad ass little dude, but the video is BS.
Let me know if you ever need someone to come kick it down. cuz i'll do it. I will! You don't believe me?
I was thinking of moving it to another spot in my yard. I'll keep your information on file. I would do it myself, but I currently have issue with shin splints. Plus, I don't look cool without a shirt on, and I don't have the right shorts for the job. lol
The whole banana tree thing is true alot of Thai boxers do this, not the big names, but the low budget gyms in thailand.
Banana trees were used by gyms/fighters who had no money for heavybags. Heavybags are preferable. This video was part joke and part preparation for a similar bit he did on a Thai variety show. It's kinda like punching a 300lb heavy bag like marciano used - probably won't make you that much better of a boxer, but fun to just say you did it. If you want to see how muay thai guys do in pro boxing, check out Somrluck (Somluk) - who was an olympic gold medal boxer, Samart Payakaroon - who fought Fenech after cutting way too much weight, and Khaosai Galaxy - who's in the IBHoF.
I've seen these guys before but I'll look up the other fighter. Cheers buddy :good By the way what is your Muay Thai experience, any fights? or just training? You seem to know a lot.
One, official, amateur Sanda (punch, kick, throw) fight back in 2003. A couple muay thai smokers (unofficial amateur bouts), the last one in 2009. Lots of inter-club sparring. Trained a bunch of fighters as well. Was in the corner of the 2005 WKA US Amateur Muay Thai champ (came in 2nd at World's), 170lbs.
Very nice, Never heard of anyone doing Sanshou or Sanda before(whats the correct name) How come you don't post that often? I've never seen you before.
Sanda is the format in a ring with knees. Sanshou is the format on a lei tai (raised platform, no ropes), with no knees. Started coming here in 06. Life keeps happening and I disappear for a while. The last 2 years I was very busy with graduate school, just graduated in December. Getting back into training now. Not going to stop until I have at least 1 official amateur (or professional) win. Been training too long & hard to go out without at least that much to show for all the time & effort. Trying to swing a trip to Thailand in the next year or two, for training, and wouldn't be averse to landing a fight while I'm over there.
Not really impressed as it is a banana "tree", but it is Bukaw so holds weight. Worth noting though he did this bare skin on banana plant. I have seen "lesser" men break bats using the same kick techniques which I think he could also do if he felt like it. Regardless of the showmanship, Bukaw is legit, his leg kicks are tremendous, and the techniques' effectiveness can't be denied.
