A few months back I saw a video where Emanuel Steward was trying to explain that once a fighter suffers one brutal KO it can severely affect their punch resistance, something to do with the brain and how it sends signals to the body apparently...now is this actually true? could it be a legit reason for Jones currently having no chin? besides from the fact now his reflexes are gone his defence has been proven to be ****.

But is the KO he suffered at the hands of Tarver the reason he has no chin or has he always had no chin but due to his amazing reflexes he's never had it checked?

Roy never had to get hit on the chin for anyone to find out whether or not he had one.

I think his chin isn't the worst but isn't as good as James Toney either. I think his chin is as good as Bernard Hopkins.

The difference is Bernard Hopkins developed a style specifically to protect his chin, keeping his chin down and tucked into his shoulder. You can't find his chin to land on it. Roy Jones on the other hand fights with his chin out daring you to hit his chin and now that his reflexes are gone people are having more success calling his bluff.

Getting severely Ko'd can affect your chin for the rest of your life.

Razor Ruddock was never the same after Lewis.

Taylor was never the same after Chavez

Jones was never the same after Tarver.

    There are many other examples......

Lol me too. Hopkins' chin isn't good because he keeps it tucked away. It's good because, well, it's a good chin. It can take a shot pretty well. But I do get what Boxmaster is getting at. The way Hopkins has kept his chin out of harm's way, has helped prevent it from recieving damaging, clean blows.

Anyway, in regards to Roy, yeah, I remember Steward mentioning the after-effects of suffering two knockouts back-to-back in a short period, and how fighters never recover well after it. It's kinda' touched up on here it 7:30:

Roy has something serious going on with his left temple. This is where Johnson, Green, and Lebedev all put him on ***** street. Those KO's actually have nothing to do with his "chin" or "jaw" per se.

See Jermain Taylor and Kelly Pavlik.

Chins can be cracked, that's why I'm glad Hatton retired when he did.

Once a chin has been cracked, it is never the same again. There are countless examples of fighters who seemed to have decent chins getting starched in succession, etc..

Edit: Part of it has to do with the punch resistance actually going and part of it has to do with the fact that once a fighter has been knocked out, the part of his psyche that lets him believe he is invincible is forever shattered. It's partly because the chin has been cracked and part because confidence is shaken/shattered.

    Concussion folks

in boxing we don't know when a fighter suffers from a concussuion or not.

    They do not reveal it

Jones suffered from a concussion against Tarver and he had no legs 4 months after against Johnson.

It was definitly a concussion and you chance to get a second one are 10 times higher

In Canada in the last few months we learned a lot on thAT issue because there is a lot of concussions in Hockey.

The best hockey player in the world : SIDNEY CROSBY does not play since a year because of 2 concussion back to back in less than 5 days 1 year ago.

There was many documentary and articles in North America because of Crosby.

Th neurologists are unanimous: A human beeing is a lot more fragile arter one concussion and an athlete cannnot train or play or fight with symptoms of that concussion.

I am sure that jones still had symptoms in the Johnson fight.

He said a couple of weeks ago that he has some balance problems sometimes.....samething with Crosby

Roid never had any semblance of a Chin. It's why he ducked all the best power punchers of his era instead choosing to fight an assortment of stiffs and bums pulled from their day jobs as police officers and sanitary workers. It's why he picked Ruiz, the biggest powderpuff out of all the HW champions at that time and a guy who hadn't had a KO in a decade, for his HW "title" shot.

Roid is a Glass Jawed Joke and a disgrace to boxing and it's no surprise that when he finally faced someone who could punch he wound up staring into a doctor's penlight and has been doing so ever since.

He was dropped by De Valle and koed in two rounds by Tarver. So I would say his chin was average. His punch resistance really dropped after the G.Johnson fight.

Manny Steward made those comments before Jones-Tarver III, not sure how accurate they are.
