It seems to be a déjà vu situation for Buté. Remember, after Andrade 1 , the logic was for a rematch but Showtime decided that they were not interested by an another fight with Andrade. Personally, i think that Showtime don't believed in Andrade to make a competitive fight and maybe now, it's the the same with Froch.
It 's a very surprising move by Showtime because Froch-Buté could be a big event; maybe for the first time in a full Bell Center (21,000K)

But the first goal of Showtime is to please their american audience. Giving an easy road to Ward with all his fights at home was a clear bias from Showtime to crown an american champ. Now, they said that they want an american fighter; we don't know what exactly Showtime wants. Ken Hershman has decided to give a big contract to Buté but the man has leave for HBO and we don't know if they really want Ward-Buté. Ward said that he don't want Buté this year and Hopkins with a possible rematch with Dawson will not be available for spring.

For a second time, a latent conflict is possible between Interbox and Showtime. Remember too that Showtime didn't invite Buté for the Supersix ( seems also that Goosen had his word to this) If Showtime succeed to convaince Ward, it will be great but I will not be surprise if they don't want also to make an easy road for Buté. For their american audience ,maybe they will prefer an american champ.

    Now look Mr. Magic

He will say that it's Bute's fault....watch out.

Showtime did it to bute the first time around for the Super 6 and now again.

    But .....

Bute signed for 3 fights with them

    Magee
    Johnson
and now they want the biggest fight possible because they are scared maybe that Bute will sigh with HBO soon.

    We Want Bute-Ward then !!!

Nobody else anyway at 168 derserve a shot against Ward

    So Bute : Fight Ward

A bout with American Tavoris Cloud would be entertaining and worthy.

Agreed, but shouldn't he go for the smw title before he thinks about moving up to Cloud, Dawson. That goes for Ward as well. I think he would want Bute's belt.

Stephen Espinoza was Golden Boy's former attorney and now head of Showtime Boxing. They want to get a Hopkins a payday and not against Dawson. Awesome how the new management at Showtime is working with the behind the scenes politics. I hope the network goes bust by years end.

Yes, they will go downhill if they just do whatever Golden Boy wants.

I have to admit, if showtime wants to play it like that, I honestly wish the fight will be against Ward, and I hope Bute will beat him severely and then says FU to Showtime afterwards and sign with HBO.

I wouldn't be sad if he fought Hopkins either, it would be nice to see that old cheat get the beating he deserves after his stunts lately.

Now this is said, I voted Green because that is who I think/fear Bute will end up fighting (or an Allan Green-calibre opponent at least), I hope I'm wrong.

I cannot believe that Showtime rejected the fight(s) simply because they want Bute to face an american. That sounds like BS.

I said it many times before the S6 was over that there will be grim times for SMW after the tournament ends.
Few fans know more than 5 names at this division. The others are known by getting beat badly by the already mentioned 5.
There will be no more than 3 meaningful fights at this category in the next 2 years. The rest will be mandatories, "deserve a rest fights" or stupid rematches (anything but Froch vs. Kessler II).
Ward and Bute will have no more than 2 fights/year. We'll se a lot of re-negociations, genuine refusals, ducks and injuries that will postpone the fight.
...But the worst thing that will ruin the division will be the war between networks. I imagine HBO being pissed of the monopolisation of SMW for the past 2-3 years. This is a war from which nobody will win. Not the boxers, not the fans. Even the networks will limit themselves in their earnings.

On to the subject now. I understand SHO's frustration for giving Bute 2mil/fight and not having him fight the winner of the S6. I believe they felt a real frustration even for the Bute vs. Glen fight but they thought Bute vs. S6 champ will deserve the "sacrifice"; especially given the fact that both Ward and Froch expressed their willingness to fight Bute after the tournament ended (the statments were made after the semifinals of the S6).
But of course, Ward and Froch weren't stupid. They got less then half of Bute's network purse when he fought Magee than what they got for the final of the S6. I'll continue talking about Ward only but the same can be applied to Froch. Ward's team made a bad prediction (not necesarely, but for the sake of argument). Their fighter's value have increased much more than what they initialy signed for. On the other hand that ain't SHO's fault as there were fighters that were given much more than what their value proved to be (Taylor, Dirrell and probably Kessler as he was the favorite).
So, right now SHO has a low negociation leverage in asking Ward to fight Bute. Ward may ask for amounts that will compensate his financial loss during the tournament.
So what SHO does is to take its "revenge" on Bute. They don't give a **** Ward refused to fight Bute. They are in no position to press Ward to do that so they put it all on Bute's shoulders.

What I don't understand is why Bute vs. Froch can't happen. So what if SHO does not agree? They won't take it, like they did with Bute vs. Mendy. They'll take Bute vs. Hopkins or Ward after he faces Froch. Something is fishy here.
