i know its not a british fight, but i want to see the thoughts of the british forum as i got to know most of ya and respect a lot of your opinions.

so, can gomez pull off a shock? he has fought as high as middle and certainly has skills, i dont believe cotto will have too many problems landing, but cant see him hurting gomez too badly, i also think gomez has the kind of boxing skills that can offer cotto some problems..

    your thoughts?

I would be VERY shocked if Gomez could avoid what Mosley, Judah, Quintana, Malignaggi etc couldn't - defeat AND PAIN!

I can not see a shock happening really. Cotto has been built up to be a real monster and the guy to destroy PBF so if Gomez comes anywhere near nicking a win I will be amazed.

Not to say Gomez is not a good fighter and he deserves the credit and shot for taking his chance and capitalising on his celebrity status (unlike Mora) but he does nothing exceptional, most things good but not quite good enough to cause a stir. He will prob become the stepping stone for more adapt challengers. I think he would put up a good performance against one or two of the other rated welters.

Why do I keep thinking about Holyfield and Bert Cooper? It was Cooper who dropped Holyfield twice before sense was retored and Cooper dispatched?

I really like Gomez. Plucky lad who's improved, fought bigger opponents and always given his all.

He'll give it everything but lose late on I suspect. Cotto stoppage win 8-10 round.

Is this some sort of a joke??

Cotto will put him on a stretcher, and I dont mean that in a twisted way, its just the truth.

Cotto will destroy Gomez and if beating a shop worn Gatti who was years past anywhere near his best gets you in line for a crack at the title, then thats just ****.

If Hatton were to fight Gomez he would be slaughtered on these boards, and rightly so.

I think Gomez will put forth a plucky effort and I think no-one will question his heart, I just see him getting pounded along the ropes and getting stopped on his feet

For this fight to be competitive, Cotto would have to have a real 'off night', and Gomez would have to fight the fight of his life. I don't envisage it happening, Miguel will beat him on points or late stoppage although, as mentioned Gomez will show good heart.

I like Gomez, seems a pretty decent guy, and is a good boxer. But this will be a step too far for him. I didn't really expect him to beat Gatti (even a past it one), so credit to him there. But Cotto is a big step up again...just can't see it.
